Keir Starmer

A Long Bailey/Rayner Leader and Deputy combo set to be the choice of McCluskey & McDonnell. If they are successful you can add an extra decade on Labour's time out of power. In fact could be the death knell of he party - it would be that stupid.
Agreed - but that is what I see happening

One of my favourite authors, as well as superb satirical fiction, he was also very astute.

Labour support comes from 2 camps traditional working class who are typically the victims of tory policy (but have been brainwashed into brexit support) and progressive urban elites who object to the right wing / alt right mindset. The idea that Labour have to choose one side or appeal to both is where they went wrong - they should stick with center left progressive politics and leave the BSing to Boris. Brexit will be a problem not a solutiion going forward so the idea that you pick a leader to back it is plain wrong - they need to think ahead.
I'm afraid that your party now encapsulates the views you state, and will never win elections because of them.
The likes of Starmer and Thornberry have spent the last 42 months condescending to working class folk, and have made
the same, or definitely inferred, similar comments that their voters have been 'Brainwashed into Brexit support.' Also, these people are not going to
all of a sudden vote for someone because it's a woman, from the north, again it's another example of identity politics, that has
infested the party, Johnson could not be more different, yet has gained the votes of these people, and in enormous numbers.
They simply have to recruit someone who is for Brexit, it's happening, remain is dead, gone, and yet we're still hearing the same
arguments against it, 'Brexit will be a problem' etc; Whether it will or not, is now irrelevant, the fact is we're getting it.
Thornberry has just been on TV, listening to her, with mounting incredulity, telling everyone that black and white, is really pink and green,
and was still waffling claptrap about confirmatory referendums, was unbelievable.
Labour now, with the candidates being offered up, are done for.

Thornbury is as big a clown as Abbot. She has regularly made an absolute bell end of herself on question time, perhaps most memorably her announcement that Labour would seek a 'deal' from the EU, bring it back to the country and then campaign against it

Lisa Nandy was on newsnight last night. Leader material or not she actually comes across very well (none of that aggression that you see with many of the others). Looks like she'd do well on the Apprentice.
Wes Sreeting has been on TV a fair bit over the past few days (laying, quite eloquently, into the current party leaders).
Not leadership material at the moment for me, but potentially in a few years.
Tend to agree that it might take a few years to build up again and have a new selection built from different cloth and utterly independent of the current crew.

People buy from people as the old expression goes. And therefore being "likeable" is a very important attribute, and for me, she has that. Stridence and arrogance are not appealing attributes (note to self, need to do better here!) which are all too common amongst front bench politicians.

Agreed. Failed her 11+ IIRC which is hardly the worst sin in the world, but not exactly leader of the country material.

Is that right?
Thick fucker;)
To be fair I felt a bit bad posting that. There's all sorts of reasons kids might have failed their 11+'s and writing them off because of it is entirely wrong. She's done OK for herself hasn't she.

I still think she isn't PM material BTW!

We should ask the Party members on here who they will be voting for and who they think the membership and NEC will go with?

Glad you’ve corrected that. There is no conclusive reason why someone who failed their 11 plus isn’t capable of running the country.

Thornbury isn’t one of them though.
