Keir Starmer

No need for that.

If we’re going to stop another decade of Tory rule, we need Labour to be united and strong and not tear itself apart over idealogical divisions.

You’re quite entitled to hold your own views about your idealised version of what you think Labour should be. But that doesn’t necessarily correlate with what Labour is in 2022.

Labour hasn’t won an election on a far left ticket for over 40 years. It’s won 3 elections on a centre left ticket, and is on course to win a 4th with the same outlook.

You can blame the Daily Mail, Blair, Starmer, me, whoever you like, for there not being a “proper Labour” PM (as you might envision it) elected for over 40 years, but we are where we are.

I won’t be so bold as to tell you to “fuck off to the Communist party if you want”, but there are alternatives that might better reflect your ideology if you don’t like the direction of travel.

But I’d much rather you stay in the party, be diplomatic, compromise, and help put an end to this Tory shit show and get back to having serious people in government that will save the NHS and hopefully make ordinary people’s lives better than the hell we’re currently living in.
We're in safe hands now GNev has joined the team.

It’s a fair point and one that I understand. For me, and please understand that I’m not a Labour supporter but, Starmer puts across credible arguments and policies that would want me voting for his party. I don’t want unrealistic dreams, I just want a party that will stick to what they tell me and try to achieve what they say.

There is an argument that it’s anybody other than what’s happening at the moment, or they are all just the same. I don’t see that, I see a party who will do the best for this country while another party will do the best for themselves.

Everybody has a choice, this time I choose Labour.

Let me know when Keir goes back to what got him elected as party leader then.

Doesn’t help at all, it’s a blinkered out of date view of somebody that doesn’t get why we over the last 50 years have had mainly Tory governments. About the only time we didn’t we had a government you didn’t like. You may prefer a Tory government to a Labour government you don’t think is ‘Labour’ enough. It’s an opinion ,but one that does fuck all to help people in the country that would benefit from a non Tory governmen, I find it self centred.Simply because you and others prefer an unelectable Labour party. Hopefully Starmer or if not his successor can change that.

You live in a world of stereotypes.

Clearly you know fuck all about fuck all.

Here you go, have at it....

Knock yourself out you clown.

Just finished that as the England goal went in so definitely got a smile on my face now.

A very good interview with Starmer clearly setting out how he means to turn this country around. Like has been mentioned, he’s got all the characteristics that this country needs at the moment and although some will say he’s boring, who actually cares as long as he makes a real change for the majority of people, unlike this current government who bat for only the rich.

Was glad that they brought the media interest piece up and his reply of worrying for his family really did show what he is all about. What was really interesting was how many visits and speeches he had made which, unlike Johnson who gets the headlines for adorning a high viz in a meat factory, never gets mentioned by the media.

To have Labour ahead in the polls, despite the lack of the rich media backing, has got to be a plus for the Labour Party.

What also got me thinking was who would he have in his Cabinet and from what I see, they will far outstrip the pathetic excuse of underachievers that we have now.

Thanks for posting. I wouldn’t usually listen to these but we’ll worth the time to get a better understanding.
My pleasure mate, glad you enjoyed it. I got out of it much the same as you did.

I don’t usually bother with podcasts, but that one is actually really good, you get the centre left view from Alastair Campbell and the other side of the aisle from Rory Stewart.

It’s actually refreshing to hear both sides of a debate, without screaming and shouting and a healthy respect for each other’s different points of view.

Far left?

You had Ed Miliband as far left! That's Ed Miliband who on being elected as Labour leader received the accolade from Neil Kinnock "I've got my Party back!".

That's Ed Miliband Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change in Starmer's Shadow Cabinet!

This is like debating with a child.

I could back and forth with you all night about what’s too far left to get elected. But I think deep down, you know.

Even though it’s naive, I still think it’s admirable that you have your beliefs. It’s better to believe in something than to not care.

You might find it hard to accept, but I believe in something too. I believe in properly funded and organised public services. The NHS and state education in particular.

My view is that the best way to fund those is with a growing but stable economy with a progressive tax system. A healthy balance between enterprise and state ownership and intervention when appropriate.

There are numerous examples of this approach working in Western Democracies over the last 30 years, which I’m sure you’re well aware of.

Even if you have differences and criticisms of what I believe in, I’m not your enemy. I think we broadly want the same net outcomes, we just have differing views on the best way to get there.

Our real common enemy are the people who wish to sew division in society. Who want to remove our right to protest, our right to strike, who want to give tax cuts to millionaires dividends, and want to pay for it by slashing 20% off the budget of the NHS, education and the justice system.

They want to sell off the NHS, sell out our farmers, stoke division in society and give complete control of the country to the people who control capital.

Our differences are negligible when you compare it to the differences between us and this shower of shite. And even if you disagree with me, and the direction of the party, I hope you’ll see the common enemy as a bigger threat to what you want for the country.

This thread is such a great reminder of why we have had 12 years of Conservative rule.
I just wonder where this country will be by the time some of you wake up and realise that the only thing that matters is getting these conservatives out.

It’s so frustrating, Labour finally have a leader than can get the Tories out , yet he’s not ‘radical and left wing enough’ ffs

Has it ever crossed your mind that this country is conservative because it's a conservative country?
