Keir Starmer

I agree with his stance and was impressed by his interview with the BBC. I'd assumed he must have had backing from the leadership.

Starmer was right to sack him in my opinion though.

Tarry could have resigned from his position first and would have been free to speak.

If he wants to pick and choose when collective responsibility applies he cannot stay as a shadow minister.

Yes, I don't have an issue with him supporting the RMT (he's a rail man), and haven't heard all he said. The way it was reported, I'd assumed he was the actual Shadow Transport Sec, and not just a junior minister - as such he's not shadow cabinet, and may have been outside any request to the shadow cabinet to not go.

The problem with this sort of sellout of the working class by labour is it leaves the working class disillusioned, abandoned, and looking for something else........along come the populists and the far right to fill the void.
Part of the problem is there are quite a few who are working class but would never describe themselves as such as there is an inferior stigma attached to the label.
There are even fewer of the self employed who would describe themselves as such.
There are also a substantial number both employed and employed who associate Labour as the tax and spend Party.
When they put forward radical policies, these policies are seen to come at a cost.
Yes, they could say they will tax the rich to pay for them ,but nobody would believe it as it has been tried and tested before.
So it falls on the majority of the workers, particularly those on PAYE to pick up the tab if those policies are persued.
As most are struggling as it is, they go for what they think is the safer pair of hands and vote Tory.
So Labour have very little option other than persue centrist policies and Starmer will struggle to take the left with him down that road.

You have no control of anyone else. You think your musings on a football forum or elsewhere is going to swing your local constituency? Haha that's some level of self importance.

By the way once you get into that little booth you can still vote however you want. No one can see you.
You have no control over anyone else. But everyone has an influence over everyone else they come into contact with.

I place absolutely no level importance on myself over you, anyone else on here, the milkman, a chartered accountant.

My point is, everyone is influenced by the people they meet and the content they consume, both in traditional media and social media.

How do you think people voted for Brexit, even though it was clearly self-harming? It was because the media and social media content they were consuming were telling them it was a good idea.

40% of under 25s in the UK use social media as their main / only news source, and you don’t think social media impacts people’s political views / behaviour? Do me a favour

Starmer could do with being more positive and articulating a vision, so far he seems more preoccupied with saying very little, whereas with the Tories it is non-stop meaningless word soup.

All this during a cost of living crisis, an energy crisis, flatlining trade, industrial action in various sectors and, according to Gove, a non-functioning State.

An inevitable climax to the infantile and fantasy politics of the last six years or so.

Well I agree it might not be pillow talk but I am sure Ms Rayner would have asked him over the breakfast table what were his plans for the day alongside with what did he want for his tea.
I hear that Rayner wears the trousers in that household, Tarry’s just the domestic ;-)

Raynor is not overly any more left wing than most of tge shaddow cabinet and is in the McDonnel, Long-Bailey, Corbyn sense far from it.

The media portray her as this as a means of puttimg people off her, but having known people who have worked with her at union andparty level she is far from being a hardline socialist.
I was more talking the links with Tarry to the left and if he went against his partner in favour of McDonnell, etc?

You right.
He has gone a bit like the Liberals, no one really know what they stand for.
He is never going to be PM by keeping his mouth shut for fear of offending.
It’s OK he slags the Tories off, that’s his job,but at the end of the day the voters want to know what he would do to fix things.
I am talking specific actions here not wishy washy sound bites.

I'm hoping that his judgment is correct in keeping his powder dry at this stage, leaving it to closer to an election before articulating a clear vision. He is, however, in danger of turning off a large section of his potential support as seen on here with comments from people who have been supportive thus far including myself. I actually think it's time for him to be a bit bolder and get away from simply trying to appease the right wing media - they will do their best to shoot him down whatever he says.

Diane Abbott is on and definitely doesn't want Starmer to win an election.

"He [Tarry] was sacked for going on a picket line"
Not according to Starmer.

"Rachel Reeves said something which was wrong policy last week and wasn't sacked" - getting something wrong is embarrassing but not sackable, Diane, but I bet everyone knew she was going on the program. That's kind of the point but for some reason you're ignoring it.
