It has to be a clean break and not one of Corbyn’s people. Phillips isn’t nearly intelligent or articulate enough, she’d be annihilated at the dispatch box.
Before anyone says, I’m not pushing for a Blairite, because I happen to like aspects of what Blair did, I’m happy for the person to actually be left wing, but maybe stay around where Miliband was and make sure they don’t have any skeletons from Corbyn’s closet.
Yvette Cooper would be my choice out of the list of people that are possibles.
I think bringing anyone from the Brown years back would be a mistake. Likewise anyone from the Corbyn project. The reason being they have already been rejected at least once by the electorate - thats what dogged the Tories post Major - leader after leader who were part of a cabinet or shadow cabinet the public had already said no to - Cameron was a clean skin not tainted by the past and thats what Labour need to find.
