Keir Starmer

It is often said here that Labour's problems stem from choosing the wrong Milliband.

Apparently David was, in the 3 years after he lost out to his brother but before leaving Parliament, quite busy.

He was paid 75k for 2 weeks work at Sunderland FC. Law firm Cameron McKenna handed over 14k for an evening talk, while Global Arc, asset managers, paid the same amount for a speech. Oxford Analytics 18k for 2 days consultancy. Energy company Vantage Point 100k for 4 days work. And so on.

None of this is illegal but these companies are not handing our politicians loads of dosh for nothing. They expect something in return.

And you can be sure that this former minister was and isn't alone. Many of a right wing persuasion on here go on about McCluskey's undue influence on the Labour party but that is nothing compared to the corporate world's influence/stranglehold on MPs across both sides of Westminster.

I'd like a Labour leader not in thrall to big corporations after all the Tories can handle that side of things.

Well I never lol.

McCluskey and Momentum are never letting go of their power.

Unite backing RLB.

Now there's a surprise!

McCluskey - it was solely Brexit that cost Labour the election. The manifesto was extremely popular.

Edit - and backing Burgon as deputy.

Just when you thought Labour couldn't get any more self-destructive.

I wouldn't be surprised if McCluskey has got a poster of BoJo on his wall.

None of it matters.

I read earlier a series of tweets from a lawyer revealing 15 lies about Starmer in the press and by the usual suspects posters. Things blaming him for decisions that were not a decision to be made by the DPP or even things which were decided before he became DPP. Simple fact is the right wing press and right wing commentators are already lining up to publish lies to discredit the next Labour leader.

This question is aimed at those posters who are actually members of the Labour Party.

I'm voting for Starmer, anyone else up for saying who they're voting for?
Starmer for me,looks like it's head to rebecca intead though, one day they might stop shooting themselves in the foot,if only the idiots hadn't voted the wrong brother in

David Milliband like Blair was in it to feather his own nest. Now for me that's fine if you're a Tory, that's what they are all about, but surely the Labour party should select a leader who believes in something slightly more noble.

Nope, they should select a leader who can win an election.

Beliefs without power is pointless.

I must say it's touching to see the genuine concern for Labour from those of a right wing persuasion who just want to see labour do well and pick a nice electable leader like Sir Kier - not too left wing, and someone Tory voters could see themselves voting for.

RLB and Burgeon

What a dream team.
Guaranteed to increase the Tories majority, these people are so steeped in their beliefs, nothing ever fazes them,
they'd carry on until the party becomes about as relevant as the Monster Raving Loonies. Then the alternative, Starmer,
is about as welcome as piles in most of the north, still, let's hope Becky edges it, a few of us have got a few bob on her,
and with Lucky Len throwing his weight behind her, we might yet collect.

Anyone who thinks the current Tory government is non ideological are fooling themselves.
We live in a polarised world politically and that is not because socialist governments have been in power in Western Europe because they haven't.
Governments have moved rightwards due to big money influencing them.
You will say people voted for this state of affairs. And they have regularly. But they have been duped. This government is not a supporter of the working man or woman, nor the small business person, definitely not those unable to work. It's remit is to help the billionaire class.
I therefore have no problem with a Labour leader who tells it as it is. Even if they are not elected. Someone has to keep the flame alive.

With respect mate that is as amateur an outlook as labour actually are right now.

Politics is a serious game and right now, the labour party and many of its membership are in LaLa land.

He is going to need a bigger flame to stop you being duped so easily. If only everyone could see how right he is. Must be terribly frustrating.

Maybe that's why we need more eu immigration they don't possess the British duped gene.

Just think with more Europeans settling and mating with the British evolution can take it's course and in 300000000 years Labour will get in. Put another log on the fire comrade.

'Duped,' Lol. So, by inference, people keep getting duped because they're stupid, bovine, and refusing to see sense hey?
You know nothing about working class people I'm afraid mate, nothing whatsoever, you're not alone, the present Labour party
knows nothing about them either.
They can persist in 'Telling them as it is,' the problem is, what they're telling them isn't how it is.
