Keir Starmer

Instructing Labour MPs to abstain on the Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Bill. What is that all about, ffs?
To vote either for or against that bill on party political lines is dangerous. Argue for or against by all means, but to make it right v left is wrong. Starmer is preaching the creed of abstention on many votes in parliament as it avoids confronting division in his own party and makes his continued fence sitting possible. It's a viable political and strategic position, but shows all the imagination and leadership of a hamster.

He’s a lawyer, I’m not surprised he abstained on that bill at current reading stage. He’ll look to get amendments at a later stage and will get a fair amount of cross party support for it.

Meanwhile Sir Kier makes the daring and insightful pronouncement 'nobody wants another lockdown'.

He is frozen with fear but then so too are most politicians these days as they think before they open their gobs "how will this play out with the twitter experts"?

Its also clear the party is split now and the left wont stop until they have got their pound of flesh in retaliation.

I don't think it is vote left or right, but a choice of what principals you believe in.

Politicians that abstain obvioulsy have no actual political beliefs and are either too much of a shithouse to have an opinion or go against their party line or make a decision that might be unpopular

That is why dickheads on the left who slag Dennis Skinner off for voting for brexit are twats, he stuck to his Lexit beliefs and showed his comitment to his principals, something bennite and enti EU fella corbyn shit out of doing.

Dangerous thing to have,an opinion as a politician nowadays with social media loons waiting to be outraged or offended by everything. Starmer is a true fence sitter though - in charge of the cps when they let Jimmy Savile off the hook, then later criticised the cps for doing so with his amazing hindsight. Probably not actually a bad bloke, but wet as fuck (Starmer not Jimmy).

That’s a really shit comparison to be fair. Says a bit about you that you thought it was worthy of bringing it up to be completely honest.

Plenty of political examples of it though, I agree.

Red Tory in attacking unions shocker.

Bradshaw is right and there is a reason Bradshaw gets elected no matter what in a seat that he has made a Labour stronghold. Like Starmer and unlike your heroes he is a sensible pragmatist who realises that without power there is nothing.

Please stop working to get a Tory government in perpetuity.

Your attitude that only the pure socialist has a point of view and everyone else is a shade of Tory is quite frankly ridiculous.

Any brand of Labour Government is a leap forward versus the extreme right wing Tories we currently have in power and unlike Corbyn the likes of Starmer and Bradshaw appeal to the wider electorate.

The opinion polls say otherwise.
I cant argue with that, the further right he goes, the better the polls will be I assume. Which begs the question have we lost the capacity to put forward our beliefs and have we just given in and accepted the right wing will always win whatever happens and whoever is elected. A Tory MK2 is still a Tory government. Capitalism and inequality will still be the prevailing ideology, corporations will still rule the roost and the working class will still be the whipping class out there earning the wealth for others to enrich themselves. I have never been more dissilliousioned with the Labour party than I am at the moment, I was angry at one point now I am close to accepting that this country can never change for the better and that the power of the capitalist class has won and we may as well just accept our lot knowing there is no alternative.

Even now when we have possibly the most inept government and worst PM in my lifetime mismanaging the biggest crisis since WW2 the Labour party acquiesce and show support to the government, they don't oppose a bill that in effect could legalise torture, they bring back Reeves FFS the woman who wanted to be tougher than the Tories on the welfare state and the party marginalises the left to such a degree it has been neutered.

What is the point in power if you are not true to yourself, power for power's sake gave us Blair and his illegal wars, his kowtowing to capitalism and the free market, his refusal to repeal the vicious anti trade unionism of the previous Tory regime, if that is power for powers sake, why bother having it at all.

If you think Keir Starmer is right wing then you are beyond hope. Suggest you do give up on labour and join some ultra left wing fringe group. At least then you won't be perpetually disappointed.

The interpretation of it isn’t, unless you’re trying to argue he should have buried it under the carpet, which I can’t believe you really are.
Not at all. Just that he's weak and ineffectual as a leader, and only has the courage of his convictions with the benefit of hindsight.

Silly boy! Perpetually disappointed is the defining characteristic of the Labour party, it should be printed on the membership cards.

I am not ultra left wing though, I am a Socialist who is being pushed towards the ultra left wing because I have nowhere else to go. Yes I do think Marx, Lenin and Trotsky made some valid points, yes I can be fairly authoritarian and yes I do think Marxism has lots of brilliant analysis, but I am closer to Benn and Foot than I am to the Labour party of Starmer. The party is moving away from me, I am not moving away from the party.
