Keir Starmer

But wants to keep schools open whilst locking down the rest of the country, kids and students are not catching this disease ........another fucking knobhead who will last all of 5 mins at this rate.
The Tories will attack him the same way. Accusing him of wanting to destroy small business etc.

I'd rather schools, colleges and universities move to online teaching first rather than shutting down the hospitality sector and gyms etc because a lot of businesses will never come back.

Can't support Starmer on this nor will a lot of GM's MPs and I know he's backed up by the SAGE advice but they were the ones who had us in the shit first time round.

Me too mate,I'm biased and selfish as my business depends on the hospitality sector, and It is struggling, but a clown like him starts spouting about schools staying open, what for ? There be no bloody jobs after their education is finished at this rate anyway

Thought he'd fallen off the fence, grown a pair, and had an opinion coupled with a decent policy idea - then heard the bit about locking everything down but still keeping schools going. Every bit as half arsed as Boris.

Starmer has been sitting on the fence waiting to attack since he was elected, now he has attacked with his ridiculous lockdown demand, who the fuck is going to pay for a full lockdown we are already on our arse economically, who is pulling his strings because up until now I thought he was credible and worthy of being the next PM... Not now the lunatic.

It would run across half term, negating the schools bit slightly. From my perspective, its refreshing to see something a bit more decisive, and following what the experts are saying.

He said businesses would be compensated for the fortnight. Its a sensible step to get a handle on things and ideally sort track and trace out.
Mate, who the fuck is going to pay for it ? We are on our arse economically, I retire in 2 years so by your MO I don't care but the 20 to 40 year olds are going to be hammered in tax for the next 30 years. Yes Lockdown now but fuck it I am alright jack the next 2 generations will pay.

I'm fortunate that I won't. He's asking for two weeks so we can get a grip. I think we can afford that.
Of course its affordable, the problem is the narrative used by the Tories of the household being equivalent to the national economy means they would look enormously hypocritical if they changed tack now and they would be wide open to accusations that austerity wasn't needed it was an ideological decision to shrink the size of the state. The very state that is no incapable of reacting to COVID because of austerity.

Keith should be nailing there hat on about this but instead he does next to fuck all and postures meaninglessly.

The same way we paid for furlough! It's not like we have an overdraft limit. Yes we'll be borrowing and will need to be paid back but for me it's a necessary step to get a handle on things as what the govt have done evidently isn't working.

Mate if you think its affordable you are delusional, UK PLC will be paying for this for the next 30 years. That means the taxpayer.

We are still paying for furlough... by your MO I don't give a fuck as I retire in 2 years but I feel for the taxpayers in the next 30 years, it's the worst situation economically ever apart from WW2 which we have only just paid off.

When Osborne was chancellor he paid off the final debt we owed from WW1

The notion that a country can go bankrupt is weird, since we are no longer in the EU we are not constrained by their rules and we have our own currency. We can print as much money as we like, we can borrow as much money as is needed because we dont pay it back next week, we pay it back next century and the nations assets far outweigh its liabilities so there is no reason at all it cannot be done. The Tories will be against it though on ideological grounds as they are wedded to low taxation and by raising taxation we could easily afford all the measures needed.

At the moment welfare payments are at the lowest level ever against the average wage, that could be adressed by introducing UBI, which would fuel the economy. Those with least have the highest propensity to spend and the best way out of debt is not austerity it is growth. The Tories though are wedded to neo-liberalism and its supply side measures where as we need a good dose of Keynesian demand side economics to boost the economy.

The UK is not a PLC, that is Tory propaganda. The economy does not run like a household either.
