Keir Starmer

I'm a traditional Labour voter but let's face it ....we all knew they had fucked up within a few months of them getting into power. It then went from bad to worse.

The Conservatives did a shit job. That leaves most people thinking yeah I'm voting Reform cos it all needs reforming or Green cos I love er trees and shit . God help us all.

I have a feeling he will make a statement expressing strong support for Starmer, and his detractors will look for imaginary hidden meaning in his words. Then it will all blow over until Burnham gets into parliament after which a new crisis will be created out of nothing.
Meanwhile growth is up and the government are getting on with their legislative programme and no one will notice or give a shit until Starmer gets another freebie worth £50.
I hope you’ve got a feeling Chelsea will win the cup…

I don't know why the Labour spokespeople are all dancing around the issue: Starmer is a dud. And if you don't think he is fine, but the public do, and that's what matters.

When Jeremy Corbyn managed to lose the election the first time around, Labour had the sense to say (in terms) that they understand that people on the doorstep are saying they are not prepared to vote for Jeremy Corbyn. It's the same now it's not about mistakes, or u-turns or not moving fast enough. People vote for a PM, not for a party or even for policies. They vote for a PM. And they have seen enough of Starmer's slimeball, lying, blaming others, not answering questions, not taking responsibility and hollow speeches. And decided, "he's horrible and we're not voting for HIM".
Loved the way you capitalised HIM. How forceful of you

I might be in a minority here but I don’t think it’s best for the country right now if he does go.
I agree. But unfortunately a large proportion of MPs of all parties are self serving and enough labour ones may panic over there seats or gamble on gaining a post under new leadership. Personally would like to see how the economy plays out over the next 12 months with some of the major world issues at least stabilising. Think he has handled the Ukraine and Iran issues as well as anyone could have expected. The war in Gaza he is probably where the majority of the country is - 100 percent condemn the initial attack on Israel and the hostage taking but recognise the Israel response crossed a line that should not have been crossed ( he should have been more forceful in condemning those actions but the UK lacks any real influence with US or Israel). Domestically we have huge issues some of which are in reality outside our control ( economic growth I think is largely dependent on riding the tide of the world economy) so it’s really about how we spend what we have and he has inherited an ageing infrastructure, a huge benefits bill , a public sector demanding well above inflation pay rises and a need for serious investment in defence spending. I would like to see some stability for a while rather than a revolving door of labour PMs .

They don't dislike him for anything he has done. There is a perception of dislike but that's because he isn't a socialist and he isn't a rabid right-winger who wants to boot out minorities. Those two factions are however totally in control of the narrative of politics at the moment and so they are loudly more extreme and exaggerate a lot.

We're just hopelessly divided into camps where of course the camps that we disagree with must contain the worst people to have ever lived... Starmer is the worst PM ever apparently simply because he doesn't do what these extreme and vocal camps want.

If we had an election today then Starmer would still get 8-10m votes but he wouldn't win an election. His problem is to win anything he has to win one of those two factions above as well but that isn't going to happen.

The Tories have it exactly the same, Badenoch is polling virtually the same as Starmer and the Tories lost council seats through the same mechanism as Labour whether it was to Reform or the Lib Dems. Nobody really talks about that but then the Tories aren't in government.
He is on the right of the Labour Party but I don’t think anyone on the left would actually do anything a lot more left. Trains are being nationalised, British steel is being nationalized, minimum wage is up, health spending is always up, no one dare reduce pensions, (it’s needed) benefits wernt able to be cut, send spending getting more money but some reform, workers rights, council house building, renters rights. What’s left nationalise water ? Cannot afford it

Rats the lot of them

Do you think Starmer will agree to stepping down then, and not put himself forward if there is a challenge?
I find him hard to read to be honest.

He hasn’t so far given any indication to suggest he will. But once Burnham gets to be on the running he may see it as a done deal and accept he needs to step down.
