Thank's Sophie and I will give it a whirl and maybe add a very small potato to the mix to help with overall consistency ..

Good luck! I wouldn't think you'll need the potato at all though. The consistency is really thick and just like creamy mash potato. I think the microwave helps take out the excess water that you end up with from other recipes.

Thank you for the heads up Roxy and if it does not do the job tonight then we will definitely be having chippy.

If I'm having a steak I normally have it with salad, although I'll add oil to my salad or full fat mayo. Other times I'll have it with a stilton or lesser strength creamy sauce which I make myself with cream, cheese and garlic in a sauce pan, really easy, but very tasty.

In the morning the wife has a bullet proof coffee, which is coffee, butter and cream...sometime MCT oil added. This can keep you going until midday and is an alternative to making a fry up, although why you wouldn't want a bacon, sausages, eggs, mushroom and eggs cooked in butter?

Good luck with keto bud.

I'm glad there's a topic on this fantastic diet and not to many folk giving it a hard time.

It's Week 7 and I feel brilliant, lost over a stone and half and cured a ton of problems I was getting and the healthiest I've ever felt.

So here's my honest feelings about the ketogenic diet.
I think as a diet it's as healthy as it gets. Although I would consider taking some supplements mainly eletrolytes. Initially it was tough, giving up so many carbs, crisps, beer, potatoes and stuff and the keto flu was different, leaving me feeling like I was walking in mud with lead boots on, however after a few day I overcome it, by replacing eletrolytes and after 4-5 weeks my energies returned and gradually became much better than before keto. My joints felt brilliant and my mind concentration also improved pre Keto.

I've had a lot of negativity from folk at work and when you consider I work with in the NHS I was a bit surprised, although considering we are around ten years behind America and 5 behind australia I shouldn't have. Most folks and even some Dr (friends) were concerned about my cholesterol increasing (laughable as one of them put a Rolo in his mouth), however on the whole only your good cholesterol rises and that's a massive bonus.

I've also read a few articles trying to scare people off, however they're almost alway connected to the same bullshit diet beliefs and (poor) studies of the70s and 80s, when carbs were found to be a cheap substainable way to feed the world.

Using the substainable word again, I also heard that "It's NOT substainable"...well eating the shite I regular ate was NOT and I was heading for heart disease fast. So yes it it!

Besides theirs millions of people who have done it for 10 plus years and are still looking and feeling brilliant.

The proof is in the pudding...even if this pudding is a little bit less a pudding than several weeks ago...and for me thats good enough.

I'm still at it and feel fantastic, one year now.

Has anyone else done it for a year? Just wondered how they are getting on?

My only advice to anyone thinking about it is, do it, but only after a week of researching it. If I can offer any help I'm here.

So I weighed the cauliflower and it came in at 750 grams and after I skinned it and took off the stems leaving only the florets all I was left with was 250 grams. I got to thinking that the frozen bags at Tesco that just contain florets weigh in at 900 grams for only £1.10 so do the sums @a fraction of the price @ a fraction of the workload. Also it took me 50 minutes to make the cauliflower and the mess in the kitchen was nothing short of horrendous and it came out like slop because I had got my measurements wrong and dumped in too much Kerry gold and single cream so I never ate them and just opened up a tin of salmon instead with some tomatoes which was fist class. I will obviously try again with the mash tomorrow and this time will get to grips with the cooking techniques .. After my salmon I watched the wife eating her double egg and chips with salt and vinegar and two buttered bread and nearly bit my fingers off in frustration but stay strong we must..

So hows it going for me personally on day four ? ...Well I feel irritable with a mild headache and feel like I am going through the mano-pause but fully understand why this is. I guess I am withdrawing from sugar as my sugar and carb fix was probably double an average person and that is why the weight stacked up. I was never happy with a single Jaffa cake but more shuffled the pack and ate the lot scooby-doo style and rinse repeat with the cakes, pies (cissy greens) and pizzas. Not even in the mood to have a drink tonight as slightly lethargic and lots of brain fog but a light shines at the end of that tunnel as my spartan physique draws ever near : /

Thanks Pete and regarding the oils I bought some Extra Virgin Olive Oil for dressing and cooking with as it seemed a better choice. Never tasted it before and it was OK

I cook in butter alot mate.

It's about getting quality fats, butter, cream, avocado, olive oil are just a few. Stay well away from trans fats, margarine, veg and sunflower oil.

There's tons of youtube videos out there, Dr Westman is brilliant and Ken Berry is a decent listen to get going.

If you need any help, just PM me and I'll try and help.

MCT oil is expensive and not to be used as a cooking agent. However it is a brilliant oil to use, use sparingly as itll give you the shits at the start.

Biting your fingers....no where near enough fat.

If you get a chance, look up how bad sugar is for consumption, It'll give you strength and I will guarantee you this, in 3 months your wife will be begging you to make her your cauliflower mash when she see's your keto face and bod.
Me and the mrs have lost 6 stone between us in a year and have played at it for four months on lazy keto.

Inceredible journey and a massive well done. Six stone is a phenomenal achievement.

It could have been much more, but for Indian food and beer. However you can make a low carb curry and drink skinny beers or bud lights.

I cant recommend this diet enough, research research though.

I've been just over a year now and still loving it.

I recently came out of keto for 2 weeks while I went to Berlin and indulged in beers, kebabs, ice cream etc and was pretty surprised that I was back in keto within 3 days once I'd removed the carbs and reintroduced fat and MCT oil.

I've been back in ketosis for just over a week now and once again, I feel incredible, and will be carrying on. I just function soo much better in keto, the mind clarity, the better mood, better sleep and just that general clean feeling around my body. My missus is the same.
