LeagueCup SF - Man Utd - away allocation of only 3000 (p30)

@Tim of the Oak & @M18CTID then I apologise, I am not on Twitter and the post I read said ‘to people who run SC branches’. Sorry.

Have a good Christmas. :-) I’ll go back to wrapping presents now!! Tail well and truly between my legs!

EDIT: So that I don’t mislead anyone, I am registered on Twitter but I am not really sure how it works (oldster!) so I post about once every 6 months! :-)

You too EB ;)

That said, I can’t see it on KP’s Twitter! @Tim of the Oak - any chance of posting the Tweet?

It’s on Facebook. Here is the content.

I am sure you will have seen in the media details of the agreement between City and United to only provide 3,000 tickets to away Supporters for the league Cup Semi Finals

To say we (The OSC) are disappointed is an understatement.

We have read the reasons for the decision but do not agree and are also dismayed that no consultation with either The OSC, City Matters, 1894 or any other Supporters Group took place. We are also aware that Manchester United did not consult with their Supporters Groups either

These Cup Ties are opportunities for fans (of both sides) to get the chance to a ticket for an away Derby. Something a large number of fans never get the opportunity to do. That opportunity has now been taken away from them

In our view reducing the number of tickets allocated to away fans only increases the possibility of trouble in home areas where away fans will now sit.

The ramifications of this decision go beyond limiting tickets.

We aslo have great concern that this sets a marker down for future high category games in Cup Competitions and we will certainly be discussing this with the Club at the earliest opportunity

It is fair to say that we feel the relationship between the Club and Fans is maybe not quite what we thought it was, only time will tell.

General Secretary, OSC

I don't think GMP or United care a jot about the safety of away fans. If they did they would not allow the chaos that ensues outside their stadium every time we (and Liverpool FC) play there. The home fans are allowed to congregate within a few yards of the away turnstiles. They are allowed to taunt, abuse, and spit on away fans in full view of police and stewards without any intervention. This has been happening for decades. Old Trafford is the only club in this country where away fans are subject to this. For most of the 70s and 80s it was safer for City fans to go in the home end (often the Stretford Paddock) than the away section. Don't expect the media to report this because, like Liverpool, they get a free pass. The Bellamy incident which involved a full bottle of beer almost knocking him out was brushed under the carpet. In a lot of countries the match would have been abandoned.
This is so true. Happens every time

Partly to blame yes but I’ve been at 100’s of games, having drank substantial amounts in the build, including big games against Utd, Liverpool and more and I haven’t ever thrown something at a player, started a fight, used racist language or signals.

A 17:30 shouldn’t absolve guilt to the scrotes behaving in that way.

Of course everything you say is absolutely correct and the kick off time does not absolve anyone of responsibility however we know that not everyone at a football stadium is perfectly behaved and represents a wide demographic of people.

However I do not understand the clubs reaction to punish all fans for the actions of a few at the derby.

A better solution would be for the club to forsake a bit of profit and adequately steward and/or police the matches. They could even stop selling tickets to agencies and determine exactly who is sat where. Of course that would impact on profits and so would be a step too far

Your final paragraph is a brilliant point.

We can blame the clubs all we want , but GMP would have instigated the reduction in allocation , two matches in a fortnight to control potentially 7k away fans is stretching their current resources. The racist incident and missiles being thrown has little relevance , i can see future derby games being played with a ban on all away fans ,because maybe the police do not want the hassle. Which is laughable because in the 70's and 80's when football violence was rife and when allocations were larger , we all just got on with it , if you looked for trouble you knew where to find it , alternatively if you wanted to avoid a ruck you mostly new what to do to avoid it , but there were also far more constabulary available to deal with incidents.
