Leeds (H) | Post Match Thread

The reason we are top of the league, have had a stunning run of form and are still fighting on four fronts is because we were never as bad as people made us out to be last season or early on this season and that applies today.

What we do have is a a few bad habits, if you will, that crop up when we lose; some of which is just law of averages: you will have days when the ball just won't go in and you will sometimes get caught on the break or make defensive mistakes or catch a team on a day when they score with (almost) every attempt. On days when those things combine, we lose.

We have done a lot to combat the problem of conceding on the counter attack but today made at least three consecutive errors (now unusual) on their first goal and went to sleep on their second, that was the biggest sin of the day.

In the summer, we need to make two or three transfer moves that genuinely raise the quality in the team and that will help raise other players' games; especially if we buy a clinical finisher. It's on the club to give Pep that boost to this squad.
Well said pal.

This makes absolutely no sense. You cant go off on one about how we have won nothing yet and simultaneously complain about a team selection that is very clearly aimed at maximising our chances of winning everything.

Dortmund

Leeds

Dortmund

Chelsea FA Cup

Villa

Champions League Semi Final

EFL Cup final

Champions League final.

Which of those games can we afford to lose? Which ones can we rest players in - players coming off 3 match international breaks as well.

Clearly, we have a better chance of winning the Knockout games if we can rest key players going into them.
We went on over 2 months playing every 3 days changing 3/4 players. Get the game won then change. We can still utilize all our players. Prem needs winning asap. Also our form in the Latter champions league says our best team wont win it. I am sure we are all fucked off with today but why 7 bastard changes. I can accept defeat but when the likes of sterling and mendy just going through the motions it boils my piss.

Not a great result, especially as we should have gone on to win it after the equalizer, doesn’t really change anything though.

Absolute crap, started from the front 3 being absolutely woeful for first half, Sterling looked like a Championship player today, Jesus is Jesus and Torres is nowhere near the finished product.

Too many changes and let's hope it is justified on Wednesday.

Grealish, Maddison & Mahrez were Championship players.

It's just not good enough management from Guardiola. There were enough warnings in the 10 minutes before to make sure we didn't concede on the counter. Never learns though.
It was tactically inept in that second half. Players take some blame but the tactics were poor. Hopefully it’s all worth it against Dortmund. Villa away won’t be a picnic either.

Pep's comments

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport: "We played a real good game. The goal we gave them, in behind, we were solid and make mistakes for a counter attack. We did not control it. We did not create enough for the forwards. It is part of the game.

"In the last 10 minutes they had other chances, they fast and can do it. When they defend in the way they were you have to stop them running and we did not do that. The best moment we had in the game we make a mistake behind and we tried but could not score.

"We are going to rest and prepare two days for the game in Dortmund and decide on how we are going to play."

It must be frustrating for him as well. For me playing a rusty Ake and Mendy in the same team was his first mistake but I guess Laporte being unfit forced that one. We didn't creat enough because for almost the whole game our four most creative players were sat on the bench, Mahrez, KDB, Gundo and Foden. Like us all he couldn't predict Sterling, Jesus and Cancello would be so poor. Torres is a kid finding his feet and needs time, at least he scored. All the changes obviously disrupted our rhythm and effectiveness. On another day we might have got away with it, today we didn't. The rags and hopefully Leicester dropping points tomorrow eases today's pain considerably.

I'm just watching Jota playing for the dippers, at the price they paid he's going to be a steal.

You do wonder sometimes whether we actually practice finishing in training - there was a ten minute spell in the second half when they were inviting us to shoot from 20 yards and we just never looked like scoring from any of the shots.

We need a big injection of attacking quality in the summer, and somebody who can actually run at a defence and break through their line.

Today’s game is the sort that Yaya often used to win on his own.
Yes they would have been in big trouble if they let Yaya into the positions Stones got in today almost certain to concede a goal or a penalty. Alas those days are in the past but everything is still to play for starting next Wednesday. More solid at the back and take a chance or two and we will be fine.I think.
