Left Back

Who should we sign at left back?

We won’t sign one.

It was Cucurella or go with what we have.

There is nobody obtainable that’s good enough to challenge for a starting spot at LB. All the options listed in the poll are nowhere near good enough and would be a massive downgrade on Zin.

The club don’t panic buy and haven’t now for a long time.

Wilson Esbrand will step up.
 
Going off that list of full backs above and what people have said on here I'd probably choose Sosa, hes 24 y/o, 6ft so might be good at set pieces. Decent crosser of the ball for Haaland to get on the end of.
i dont know if he's any good at defending or not though, I'm just going of what different people have said on here, to be fair I haven't got a clue who we should go for, but we need one
 
Jesus christ, I like Zinchenko but this deification of him is ridiculous.

Quite a few of the potential LBs can offer what Zinchenko did well (ball retention & recycling, pre assist) either straight away or with Pep coaching - a fair few can offer more going forward and definitely more defensively. Cancelo, often vilified, had a better season defensively than Zinchenko (stats per 90) last season.

We need a left back, to take over at left back for games when the teams won't park the bus. Cancelo, is not it.

There's something in this. We have a left back Cancelo. Ake is a backup as is Laporte when fit. Our 2nd left back will be a new signing or Josh WE. Pep spoke about him and that the problem with him had been injuries. Past tense. I think he trusts him to be 2nd choice in the squad, now that Cucu is history and his injury problems have receded.
 
JWE is the backup.

We've had Pep style ball being played through the academies for 6 years. Foden was a special case, now you have to ask if some of these guys are ready.


Some of the people clutching their pearls about this and wanting to throw more cash at a backup full back wouldn't have given Foden the time and space he's been given.
 
Surprised the club haven’t got this sorted, they want champs league & im not sure we are much closer to winning it. We always seem to be short somewhere.

If we don’t sign somebody good then letting zinc go seems nuts

Just hope haaland is the difference
 
What about the left back Spurs are looking at ? Or maybe JWE will become a key squad player. Just seen Angelino is going on loan thought he had been doing well seems odd Do we have a sell on or buy back haha

Not sure what you were picking up from my post to respond with that?

We need an additional LB for depth and preferably a left footed one to overlap for width - getting the best out of Grealish and a better crossing option for Haaland. Acting like none of the available options can do that at a level equal to or greater than Zinchenko is crazy

Agree, whoever we sign would only be a back up player to Cancelo, surely we have Ake and Wilson Esbrand that can do that comfortably.

Sorry, yeah, I'm not picking up on your post per se, but if people are getting frustrated that we sold our only back up left back (who, whether the stats bear it out or not, was certainly less prone to the stand still ole tackle that is Cancelos raison d'être), I can totally understand, and my personal feeling is he was overall a slightly better defender.

All in all, i think we all probably agree that we need a fucking left back!!
 
I just hope we get someone. We're so close to finally having a team where Pep doesn't have to yet again work his magic and transform a player into a position that they've failed to buy for him. Every season we've won the league, we've done it with a fucking midfielder playing left back, or a midfielder playing as a striker. Although knowing Pep, he'll be shit when he's finally got the right players in the right positions.
 
I would give EWB a go.
A LB/WB that I have been impressed with is Cornet. Yes a step up but with Pep improving him could be nice attacking fit. Plus around 20m

One more game without scoring and we should stick haaland there till Xmas and stick a cheeky £80m bid in for Luke Shaw in Jan.
 
Ake at lb is shit. He is zero creativity.No idea why everyone keeps bringing it up. Pep would rather play him as a goal keeper. Foden and grealish as LB.. what I am reading. Has everyone gone crazy?!
