Lescott and Garcia Partnership

garcia is more of a passenger. he jumped on our blue bandwagon, he is only here for the ride.

lescott is outdated. get rid.

Lescott is a good defender 1v1, I'm quite comfortable with him as third choice CB, the only thing that worries me with Lescott is he's prone to the occasional error and he's shockingly poor on the ball, like, detrimentally poor. As long as he's partnered with somebody with pace, e.g. Kompany, he's fine. We need Nastasic and Kompany back ASAP, and tbh we need Luiz no matter how much money it costs to bring him in.

Sorry joberg, but the last thing you could accuse Lescott of is "Being a good defender", a shocking lack of pace and complete lack of any mental speed means he`s a wide open door, and even in a straight 1 on 1 he gets out muscled by smaller players.

I dread to see his name on any team sheet because he is a disaster waiting to happen, overrated and overpriced when we got him and the sooner he`s moved out the better off we will be.

This is the reason Bob wanted rid of Lescott for a senior player he doesnt organize a defence.

He only looks good alongside Vinny, when he plays with anybody else he is bobbins...

Next week i would play Garcia and Nasty..

I think that's a bit harsh. He isn't first choice anymore, which is right, but in terms of back up he's a pretty decent defender imo. Clearly though he needs a centre back with pace alongside him or it's always going to be a catastrophe waiting to happen. I don't tend to worry much if it is Lescott and VK on the team sheet.

Yes, as long as Lescott is covered by a world-class CB, he's tolerable and will only cause a few major goal opportunities per game.

Do you see the flaw in that reasoning?

Most of our defence is what we had during Mark Hughes' time as manager. Now whilst some of those players are very good, you have to admit that a number of them are definitely upgradeable. They were good players when we were trying to get amongst the elite, but they just don't cut it amongst the elite even in the Prem. How many of our defenders can be claimed to be the best in their positions in the Prem? Probably only the injury-prone Kompany, and Nastasic as the best young prospect.

Our defence has been neglected whilst we have improved midfield and strikers, and it needs attention, or we will achieve similar to last season. Clichy is an OK defender, but does he provide the attacking threat of Baines, Evra or Cole? Like him or not, Rafael had a better record going forward than Zaba last season. Chelsea and United may have some ageing CBs, but their experience counts for a lot, especially when they have younger players around them.

Cardiff have now established the blueprint for how to play against City, and it may be too late to change anything this season. I hope not.

I think it's way too early to attach too much blame to Pellers. It was a little disappointing that he didn't make any effective in-game changes.

We defended as a whole like a pub team. It was like watching a slowed down version of a keystone cops film. Pellers has the pedigree to sort it out. He can be judged more convincingly after the Stoke game.

The thing that baffles me is that you'd assume Kiddo and MP would have gone through last season's away abberations on video with a fine toothed comb. The slowest centre back pairing in living memory shouldn't really have anything to do with conceding at set pieces and yet in a psychological way i think it did.

Garcia is a passable championship midfielder and it is a bit concerning that he seems to be higher up the pecking order than Barry (for the midfield slot). It's probably totally old fashioned and ridiculous but i think with such a slow cb pairing an old fashioned sweeper could have worked on Sunday.

Hindsight is great though eh? I'm sure MP will sort it out.
