plenty of potential banana skins here: everton might want the initial fee to be smaller, and the rest to be comprised of 'sure-thing' add-on's (30 games, england cap, top 6 finish), as this would reduce the amount wolves recieve. as others have pointed out, it could be the payment schedule. personally I think this might have something to do with Jo. I wonder if we've given them an option on Jo for a fixed price, but are trying to wangle it so that this price is part of the initial fee.... in other words, we're trying to arrange it so that Lescott is 14m+addons+Jo, but Everton get another 8m next summer if they decide not to keep him.

I'm not ITK but I am a SC.
I've heard that Moyes (the decision maker in all of this) has insisted on Everton being paid in brand new Scottish five pound notes. However, Bank of Scotland are reluctant to see any money slip out of their vice-like grip. I expect this to take a while to resolve.
