All he should have to do is win the ball and pass it 5 yards to a more technically accomplished player. If said players aren't showing for the ball, knowing that Joleon is uncomfortable in possession then that's their fault.
On a couple of occasions today MDM gave Lescott a shit pass on his wrong side that made him struggle. If the rest of the team played to his strength's he wouldn't look so uncomfortable.
But to his immense credit he always tries to do the right thing on the ball, if he sees a difficult pass needs to be threaded to gain us an advantage he'll try to do it. He never hides like some of em
Exactly right.Anyone who gets a shit pass struggles. You would think listening to the Lescott haters that he constantly gives the ball away or gets caught in possession but stats say that's just a myth.
Why does someone have to be a Lescott hater? I think he's quite poor, and one of the slowest defensive passers of the ball, as he has to turn his body to the side to play even a basic pass. He doesn't make many errors as it's not really that difficult to fuck up a 10 yard pass as long as nobody's bearing down on you. This style does not suit the way that the team is going to be playing, and that is why he is not regularly picked.
Demichelis is also quite poor. He's too slow to chase back when playing a higher line, and is also not suitable. He understands the need for a quick outlet ball when playing our current style, and this is why he gets the nod more often than not. He's more of a liability in the tackle than he used to be due to lack of pace, and doesn't have the sharpness he used to possess.
It shouldn't be presumed that you have to be a hater of one or the other. I'll praise anyone if they put in a good shift, as did Lescott today, but the outstanding problem is that neither gives the back line the solidity required when playing a fast tempo pressing game.
