Libya (Merged)

Great news!

The "rebels" are now in charge of the main oil facilities, and as the Libyan troops cannot now attack them to recover them, it looks like it's now a job well done!

Expect to see a dividing of the country pretty soon... "To avoid further civilian casualties..."

And then onto Syria...

It would appear that Gaddafi's command and control system has been destroyed and his generals can not communicate with the field units, the rebels have been reported to have captured the No 3 commander General Bilgasim Al-Ganga, as well as loads of African mercenaries, this will be over quite soon Gadafies Army will give up such is the pounding they are taking from the air. Did you see the woman that had been raped yesterday?

Saw that, shocking footage. Journalists trying to sneak there film out and being attacked by Gadaffi minders, couldn't believe the hotel staff attacking the woman trying to shut her up. Did they establish where she was being taken ?

The Libyans are now claiming to have her in "care" and are now investigating it was very embarrassing for them because don't you know all Libyans love the "Brother Leader" according to reports she had been gang raped by 15 pro Gadaffie militia her crime was she came from Benghazi

It's the way of the world, what you can't seem to understand is the concept of self interest, I beleive that it is in this countries self interest to be involved in Libya, to help the people (remember this was started by the people) overthrow a despotic dictator.

Hopefully when this is finished we will have 3 or 4 fully functioning democracies in the Magreb, one of those democracies will be an incredibly wealthy one (Libya) which will be good for the region, good for Europe and the UK, good for the world, we were asked to help and we have helped

Rather than having a negative effect in the region (for the west) this action is having a very good reception in all Arab countries,
Who exactly asked us for help ?,we cant even help our own population there is over 1 million people demonstrating against this goverment now ,the West helped in Iraq & Afganistan ,& look at the problems there .

When did this happen?

As for who asked for help??!? You haven't researched this very well have you?

The Sky Reporter on Sat morning said there was at least I million people demonstrating in London ,other estimates vary wildley from three hundred thousand to halfe a million one women on the demonstration thought there was well over a million .whatever the true number there was a hell of a lot of people not satisfied with our own goverment

300-500,000 is the figure that has been reported and I would listen to offal figures rather than "some woman in Hyde park".

You really think Libya and anti-cut march are on a similar level?

I shall leave ducado to keep showing you up, he does it so well.

I am not here to "show anyone up", it's an interesting debate about a part of the world that I know quite well (I am not from there by the way)

My hope is that the Arabic peoples (it's a bit hard to call them a nation when they all differ so much in culture, many of the Arabic dialects are not understood by other Arab countries) get the same democracy as the western world, they are an intelligent people with so much potential.

One of the things that I think many people are now realising is that the same Autocratic Leaders the world has backed for so long are in some way responsible for Al Queda and similar groups who can only flourish under repression
