The premise of my argument remains the same.

He can ask whatever he wants, the cash would find its way to him in whatever guise or or form.

What is shown in the club's books is a different story.

I'm sure Lionel is still hurting after being told to hand back millions in unpaid tax.

Messi, to a club such as ours, doesn't cost us anything.

It's a trophy asset that is a licence to print money.

We are supposedly searching for a new shirt sponsor?

I wonder how much someone would be prepared to pay to have their name on our shirts, in the guaranteed knowledge he would be wearing it.

That's £100m a year right there.

I agree with you, just think people need to know how much money is involved.

We'd be talking about probably a 5 year £500m contract, the biggest in the history of sport. And he's 33 now...

Also you can guarantee that if people at UEFA are unhappy with our spending now and investigating everything, stealing Messi would ramp things up 100x...so all that dodgy accounting is going to be exposed.

If this season is him in decline, he's still having a better season than anyone here bar maybe KDB. And considering how they tore Liverpool apart the first game, you'd think the entire team could do something to stop them getting dicked 4-0. And if Dembele didn't fuck up that 1 on 1 (that Messi put on a plate for him), they'd be 4-0 up, high and dry.

If we paid him in shares, the rise in fans & share price would offset whatever we pay him, and it'd get around FFP too. Juventus similarly with Ronaldo.

It was one of the strangest 3:0 wins ever. Liverpool were as good as them and probably even better. Score in that game massively flattered Barca.

Imagine turning your nose up at Lionel fucking Messi. The state of this place

He is 33 and people are right to think the club might not be willing to invest such an amount of money in him at that age. He's human after all and he's at tricky age for transfer of that kind of money involved. Sponsorship and shit, I know, but I've not seen anything to think we are ready to operate this way. We've been pretty careful to stay in 50-60m per player camp and though we'd probably broke that 2-3 years ago for him, I don't think we'd do it now. We'd all love to see him in blue shirt, but I am not sure if that would be a good move for the club generally.

Oh, I know mate.

It's not my money and I never envisaged how Shiekh Mansour would get a return on his investment when he started out with us.

He's had his money and enjoyment back, ten-fold.

£500m for the type of exposure Messi would bring, it might be seen as a small price to pay, as Juve have done with Ronaldo?

Every corporate seat would be occupied, kids would be falling over themselves to be associated with City.

Even at 33, he becomes the best player in the Premier League overnight.

It was, but a 3-0 lead is a 3-0 lead and should have been 4-0 at the death. Messi did his bit, the team did not.

Even so, Messi was still putting a free-kick in the top corner from 35 yards!

They weren't better than Barca. Liverpool had some very good chances, but the home side were cutting them to ribbons, even more so, when Semedo came on.

That miss in the final few seconds was as bad as it gets.

Even at Anfield, Messi whips two efforts inside the box just over the crossbar when it is 0-0.

He was the only person who turned up.

Don't see Messi leaving Barca for another 3 or 4 years at least.

Saying that if he does become available, we would do it, I'm sure.

Messi is still the best player in the World, and us getting him would give Tebas a coronary, so a win, win.
