I expected it would be more of a split but it seems almost unanimous that Messi is in the right.

I worried it might but fortunately most are seeing it sensibly IMHO

But I have to say, this bizarre roller coaster saga may indeed have hit a snag I didn't anticipate - Messi's contract interpretation appears to have been in error which does not appear to be a Bartomeu tactic. If true, explains the rumours of a u-turn - unless Bartomeu sets his price & gets it (Which does not appear to be the case), Leo may have to remain until June

Wow

It seems very unlikely Barca would want to force him to stay if he doesnt want to.

He could "down tools", play shit and be a negative influence around the club.

You don't want a package like that hanging about.

Definitely not but regrettably Bartomeu once again is back in the driver's seat. There's a motion to censure the board filed today (15 working days to collect 16k signatures). If the signatures are obtained then there would be a vote and in this vote there must be 2/3 in favor to censure. In 2017, Benedito filed similar against Bartomeu and came up short - I see it as improbable.

Very strange impasse

I'm curious.

If Messi said he wanted to go to Liverpool or Jueventus or United or Bayern, etc. would Bartomeu be acting the same?

Remember it was PSG who also was where Neymar left for.

One interesting tidbit I read is that part about Bartomeu, where if he does not get the debt removed he is responsible for it, personally and cannot just quit.

Does Mahrez have the same issues?

why sack the law firm at the club today for advising Messi if his clause has no validity?

Pep arrived in Barcelona last night. Officially it will be for “holidays” but he’ll meet Messi over the weekend.

Seeing Pep has said, he hopes Messi finish his career at Barcelona,
You don't think he'll try and talk him to staying.

I always assumed that was his media stance to cause the least amount of controversy. I believe that he wouldn't have wanted to try persuade Messi if he was dead set on staying but if he is leaving I think Pep will be all over it

I think I said earlier but it's worth repeating: even if his interpretation is incorrect, it is clear that Barcelona are breaking the spirit of the agreement. It is an argument over semantics. What was he supposed to do, end his contract mid season?

The board is exploiting the covid situation to box him in. He will consider that an enormous betrayal. If they force him against his will in this way, I can only imagine how angry he would be. He will never sign another contract with Barcelona.
