Liverpool (h) - CL QF post match thread

Are we ever going to win this competition? We really should have beaten Liverpool, and now barca are out.

I think City have a got a truly good side, and will be stronger next season, but it's hard to imagine that we will have a 15 point lead in the Premier League. We even had a favourable draw this time, because whilst LFC are no mugs, they are also not the strongest side and definitely a side we should have beaten. I think the players will be very very disappointed to go out to them. Players like Kompany, Aguero, Silva may not have may opportunities like this again. How many times do we flop at this stage of the competition. I thought we were a little short of barca and Real madrid but then one of them is now out so it's opened up perfectly for Liverpool. Hopefully they draw Real Madrid or Bayern and get absolutely thrashed.

Not sure we have the squad depth to challenge just yet. Our key players have had a hard few months with little respite and whilst having such a lead in the league is great, the strength in depth is not quite there to have said lead and still be fresh(and strong) at this end of the season

Anyone wearing a 50/50 scarf should not be allowed in - I agree, friggin hate it when all you see all game is selfie sticks and posing twats

i agree. i think a lot of city fans find it awkward/ wrong, but just begrudgingly accept it. we should just tell them ( clear non city fans) to fuck off !

you need to read the rules again mate, it has to be played by a team mate to be offside. their keeper punched the ball into Milner, I couldn't possibly be offside
I have read the rules. This is the quote from the IFAB definition, which I've shortened to cut-out the bits in that that aren't relevant but have kept the exact wording for the bits I've quoted:
2. Offside offence
A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has:
• rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar, match official or an opponent
• been deliberately saved by any opponent

A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball (except from a deliberate save by any opponent) is not considered to have gained an advantage.

In summary, he's offside if the ball rebounds or deflects off an opponent but not if the opponent deliberately played the ball. So the interpretation is whether the ball rebounded off Milner or whether he played it deliberately. To me, it looked more like the former than the latter.

Shit happens and to a certain extent I think City were robbed by bad refereeing decisions in both games but that's not Liverpool's problem and they took their chances. If your asking if City will ever win a champions league title I'd say most definitely yes. It might not be next year or the year after but at some stage they will.

Sane was inline with the last defender so the rebound is irrelevant

For me the question is has Pep got the balance right between all out attack and resolute defending. Dont get me wrong I love our brand of attacking football ,but the challenges such a system places on a defence when facing a higher than average opposition are there for all to see. Can we have any serious expectations of winning the eilte competitions like the CL when we play such high risk football?
Please don't misunderstand me, I love the football we have played this season and as a season ticket holder for 30+ years, I feel privaledged to watch it. But in life everything has a price and is the price of the attacking football we play, nights like tonight?

If you think we're pissed off.

The rule you stated starts by saying played by a team mate. The ball wasnt played by a city player, it came to Milner direct from karius so it doesn’t meet the interpretation.
Anyway, it looked like Milner attempted to play it. The goal should have stood.

That's me done with the CL
watch the shit they pull now it looks like we have finally made pot 1.
Enjoyed the away games for the crac but I am never going to another one. The half and half scarfers can have my seat from now on.

This picture tells a 1000 words.

Txiki has the same face like on that gif made at CL draw we found out its Liverpool.

I think we did the best we could this season you can't do much when the goals you score are being chalked off left right and centre it was a blatant carve up.

Great picture...at first I was mad, frustrated anD wanted to lash out in disappointment.but in the end we had our chances but we ran out of steam.pep gave us a magic team playing magic football I never dreamed city could play.I loved hearing that we were one of f
The great teams and all the neutrals found us a pleasure to watch.we beat all our nearest rivals ( some we battered ) and had only lost one allyear.sadly in a week we have lost to Liverpool twice(they now have beaten us three times, we lost to the rags at home an$ come Saturday ( with this let down ) we could lose to spurs. Worst case scenario we continue this bad run and draw a couple thru lethargy and we win the league by 6 or something.now had you said at the beginning of the season we would win by six points I would have been happy, but having almost had the perfect season it feels a bit hollow.so we will now jus5 be thought of as just another good side who won the league.maybe fitness and squad rotation needs to be considered next year as we assume we will be heavily involved once again.the way we fell off both second halves against United and Liverpool says either mental or physical tiredness, yet Liverpool played us twice with their derdyin the middle.cant help thinking had we beat the rags in the derby we would have been more up mentallyfor this one.anyway, im sure pep and th3 team are feeling it too.wish I was more positive like some on here , but feeling lik3 the typical city tag is not yet shed.maybe next year.

Bellamy on the debate saying about its down to the dippers history!
What a load of bollox

We will lose to spurs this weekend, understandably so, they're a decent side, we've come off the worst week in the last 18 months. But the league still won't be interesting because we have West Ham, Southampton, Huddersfield etc...and United/Liverpool aren't winning their next 6 games on the bounce. Settle down.
Fair

Intestate sums up the CL.

“It’s painful because no one expected this after the advantage we had but you realise what the reality of the Champions League is like when you do things badly, when you make lots of errors, when you don’t adapt to the game,” a visibly distraught Iniesta told reporters.

They’re paid to say that shit, anyone that can honestly say that the referees had no bearing on that game is a fucking complete bullshitter.
