Whether the youth team plays or not (I believe that it's his decision to play which ever players btw} it is not a youth team competition. Whatever team turns out they are representing liverpool fc. As the manager of liverpool he should be there, not the youth team coach.

Completely agree. Klopp could field a team of 10 year olds for all I care in the comp, he can set up the comps in order of preference and not give a fuck about them so play lesser quality players as although I'd like to see strong teams from all teams in all comps, some have to be prioritised.

But.... to not turn up yourself as manager of Liverpool FC smacks of arrogance and is disrespectful of the competition. Wonder if he would have been happy to go to that "world cup final" had that been scheduled for this winter break..

It's a senior competition, if he wants to play youth, then that's fine, but hes the senior manager. So it's safe to assume that Klopp needs time off but he feels that the U23s coach doesn't need time off? Is that how we're meant to take this? Or the Shrewsbury manager?

Completely get the players having a winter break, it's just clear Klopp has seen his arse after throwing a 2 nil lead against Shrewsbury with a mix of senior and younger players and is doubling down on his ****ish behaviour.

Eloquently put Sir.

Think his true colours were shown in that instance - things have gone considerably his and liverpools way this season. That stops next season and you will see a moaning sulking klopp you watch

Whilst I agree Im pretty sure that the youth leagues have a break over Xmas / New Year

I'll try to summarize what Jürgen said at the presser.
  • Klopp said that he took the decision to give the players a break, three weeks ago. In the case of a replay, the replay would be in the middle of this break. Unfortunately it was a replay, but his decisions stands.
  • Regarding the fact that Klopp will not coach the youth team, he made the point that it is Critchleys team, not his. Now that the decision has been made to play the youth team, they have to have the coaches available that are best suited to lead the team.
  • Klopp went on a rant that FA, FIFA, UEFA and the Clubs need to talk to each other. It can't go on like this, with more an more games each season and with expansions planned for both World Cup of Clubs and the Champions League. They will have to think about the players, at some point, and not just business.
I know what Klopp said, I saw the press conference, and it be fair he made some valid points. All the teams were told by the FA at the beg of the season any FA cup replays would be played in the week of the winter break, its not like it was a shock to him. Just a thought here, but if he had put out a stronger side there would probably have been no need for a replay. I have no sympathy for him, he knew the implications of playing a weaker side.

Klopp can do what he wants in respect of the domestic Cups because he has unprecedented authority at the club.

City fans may protest that he's disrespecting the Cups which is true but he does it out of self interest. For LFC it makes financial sense to prioritise the League and the Champions League as they are the premium trophies which generate the highest revenue, and unlike City they do not have our strength in depth. An injury to 1-2 players and they'd be half the side whereas City only have that vulnerability in respect of Laporte. If I was a Liverpool fan though, I would have liked my team to go for the treble. They'll probably never have this chance again.

What a fantastic time to be a Liverpool supporter though. Utd in what could be terminal decline. City in disaster mode making everything easy for them.

It doesn't last though. A few months ago we were on our way to a domestic treble and were very close to an unprecedented quadruple. Once you're derailed it's difficult to get back online

All the preperations will be done by the youth team coaches, with Crichley in charge. The analysis, the game plan, the training sessions, the drills, the individual preperation, the videos, etc. Klopp's view is that it would be disrespectful and suboptimal, for him to walk in during match day and ... well, contribute with what?

About the "disrespecting the FA cup", I understand your frustration. For any fan of the FA cup, it's clear Klopp's not prioritizing the domestic cups.

There's not prioritising and then there's disrespecting. I feel that Klopp is doing the latter.
