It's not about Hillsborough, it's about everything they do, heysel, the coach bricking, the spitting, the attacking an ambulance, Michael shields, the Paris final, claims against var, against us for denying them more trophies..it goes on and on and on.
To say "everyone" thinks it's about Hillsborough is so far wrong you should be embarrassed.
I sing it and will continue to sing it because it's true and they know it
Bang on.

This is a completely genuine response now, sarcasm and snide bickers aside.

It is not dishonest to point out hypocrisy, granted.

Claiming 'everyone' was saying it on that thread though, is. It is just the other extreme of my own biased take.

I maybe pushed it to an extreme, but my point does stand. There are clearly people arguing it even back then. And then a few saying nothing at all, which you take as it being about Hillsborough and I take as not. Somebody saying they are both as bad as each other and quick to cry tragedy, is not claiming the song is about Hillsborough, for example.

Even so, it was reactions to an article that first came out, you of all people should know stances change with subsequent articles, as you have done many times here.

As to what my own problem or take is, I have said multiple times, I don't think the song should be sung.

Not because I think it is about Hillsborough. I don't. I 100% believe that it was about Luis Suarez, and everything there, the timing, the sequence of events totally checks out. And it has since only come back because of Liverpool's moans about Uefa, rhe FA, spending, other clubs business, other songs, trying to sneak into Paris without tickets and blaming authorities for their reaction, and other examples that it now seem to trigger it amongst many clubs. I fully acknowledge the FA and BBC have accepted the claim it is a 'tragedy chant', Liverpool have indeed made that stick. And for that it shouldn't be sung. And partly because I'm not keen on borrowing Utd's songs. Doesn't mean I have to agree with their take.

Edit. I see you have done your usual fundamental edit again. Not going to go back, as I responded to the post at the time. I'm just surprised you didn't edit your use of 'everyone' out as well.
The fact they dont like it is a reason to keep singing it.I dont associate it with Hillsborough but all there other misdemeanours. When the media calls them out for Heysel.Chucking Amonia,Rocking an ambulance,Lizzies in a box.The coach attack then maybe everyone will stop singing it.Surely the fact that nearly every team they play the fans sing it must resonate with the media.

I stumbled upon this article recently. Not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing, but it's worth a read, if only to learn about the Michael Shields Royal Pardon
That article is absolutely bang on.

My hubby is a Liverpool fan and he himself agrees with you that a lot of Liverpool fans act like hooligans and dickheads, he's been around them and says it's embarrassing cos they let down the decent ones.

He was at the Paris final and said though, that was an absolute mess. He himself had a ticket and couldn't get through the gate right away. He said he was lucky he never got sprayed with that stuff aswell. There were genuine ticket holders there that were getting turned away. It was really bad management and it was a miracle it wasn't another disaster, he was really concerned people would get hurt.

I can't say that there isn't some coked up prick singing about Hillsborough.

But by and large, no one is calling those that fell at Hillborough.

Who do you really support? Or did you escape the cult?
LOL, well I left the Wirral when 18 and have never lived back there, so 36yrs away may have broken that mental bondage. I guess you could say that I have escaped. Move away from an area and your world does open up alongside your mind.

I have zero doubt uefa fucked up & the French authorities were useless twats. However no other club would have the fucking manager telling fans to go without tickets in the buildup and no other club would have had so many ticketless twats trying to get in to the determent of their own genuine fans. You would expect especially after Hillsborough genuine fans would police the jibbers but every big game they get to its the same. Almost like a badge of honour. Thousands of city fans went to Istanbul without tickets but they didn't enmasse try to get into the stadium, they looked for any spares and watched the game in bars pubs etc like every other club in a similar position and savoured the pre and post match atmosphere.

It suits their “wounded” agenda for the media to be able to pass it off as a reference to Hillsborough
Every football fan recognises the hypocrisy of their campaign to stop it being sung which perversely proves the actuality of the chants message
