Liverpool v City 1st leg CL Qtr Final post match

Can't think of many times Pep has got it wrong this season (Everton at home when he played Sane LWB), but he got it very wrong last night. Was so difficult to tell what sort of shape we were playing and due to a lack of option on the right, it meant that everything came through Sane who had an off night.

I can't see us keeping a clean sheet on Tuesday which means we'd need 5 goals, which would be on par with Barca's comeback v PSG last year. Can't see it happening sadly.

And being on a bus for 15 mins being constantly bombarded with rocks and other missiles didn't have any thing to do with that? Of course it did.
This.
We conceded two goals (considering the first one was well offside, not given by a linesman who somehow spotted a marginal Jesus offside later)

Thats not the problem.

The problem was that the passing and movement in our attack was uncharacteristically poor, and we failed to score or even test their keeper.

Dies anyone really believe that has nothing to do with their intimidation and violence on the bus previously?

As someone who supports a team who continually play looking worried and not at it in the CL, I can understand the frustration felt. That had to be one of the worst performances of the season for you.

To have so many players looking bang average, especially with the talent they possess, is the biggest ball breaker.

As we all know, being a truly great player, is as much to do with a mentality that stands up when the big games come around. Last night too many were MIA.

My partners son is a city fan and he reminded me of my own reactions watching my team in the CL. He was going tonto. It didn’t help him with a friend of ours watching it with us being a rag. He was told to fuck off home many times.

I still think you have a chance. They will be hurting after that piss poor showing and next week will tell you everything you need to know about their mentality.

One thing last night confirmed. No matter how good your team is, football has a never ending ability to hand you your arse.

I will be sticking a tenner on City going through.

If they can score three against you, you can do the same. The team have got to believe and play their game. Last night they weren’t even close to that. That’s the real pisser.

Don’t lose hope. Lose your minds, but not hope. It ain’t over.

We’ve still scored more goals against them this season than they have against us!

We’ve scored 3 or more Vs Spurs, Liverpool(x2), Arsenal(x3) and Napoli, amongst others

It’s possible but very, very unlikely. But if any team can do it, this team can.

Well; this has been a really enjoyable morning at work. Not.
In Ireland? Christ on a bike jim, I can only imagine. My deepest condolences!

Anyhoo, Pep is clearly the problem and just has a historic and systemic lack of skill playing in Europe. Clearly Pellars with that run at Malaga or that semi reached here via fluky draw (Kiev) + KDB magic moment (PSG) is who we should have kept. Plus his decision-making! Using people like Delph and Zinchenko in unaccostomed positions was clearly disastrous earlier this year. Or similar divergences at Bayern back when. And speaking of that, result X from match Y in year Z at Bayern? Also suggests he's the wrong man for it.

Well then back to the drawing board! Surely Conte or some other Italian manager must be available to take over sharpish!

Still gutted.

But then I use my dads advice which he’s been giving me for over 40 years. “Never lose your dignity. Don’t let them have that as well”

Win on Saturday, early goal on Tuesday, and we’ll have 80 minutes with the best team we’ve ever had needing to score two more against a side that will be having doubts.

20% chance we do it, 80% chance we don’t.

Either way we’ve seen things this season we never thought we’d see.

I’d still rather be a blue this year than anyone else.

The fact is - and its been proven on multiple occasions now - if Pep's single pivot (Fernandinho) is overrun then we are in big trouble. We have to play a formation with two DMs, when required, to stop this from happening.
I had thought that Pep was playing Kevin deeper to stop teams doing this. But last night he had Kevin, Silva and Gundogan up field with Fern on his lonesome. A real brain fart
Kevin needs to start alongside Fern with Sane and Sterling tucked in a bit till the level of press diminishes.
Pep is a very stubborn man though.

There’s no coming back from that defeat. If we do, I’ll donate £500 to the MCFC Community Charity.
Playing Gundog was the biggest error, but he isn’t solely to blame for this embarrassment. To a man, they were are responsible, from Pep downward.
We couldn’t even get a shot on target FFS!!!!
