Liverpool vs. City Pre Match Thread

We have 12 league games left and Pellegrini must realize that he probably needs to win 10 of those to save his job. It still may not win us the league but it would at least make Chelsea earn it. If we only win 8 with a couple of draws that would be a surrender of our crown.

Given that surely he has to quit with the rotation and play a settled team. The big question is 442 or 4131. I think we all want a striker in front of Nasri, Silva and Yaya. But will Pellegrini see sense?

"drop Kompany".........stop listening to the so called 'experts' on the telly....ffs

I never agreed, I just said "I know where you're coming from" and I also said "Never going to happen."

But he does need to give himself a shake or something. He's doing a lot of rash things, you've got to agree. Needs to slow down his hothead and read the game a bit better like he always used to.

We'll win this one, Dippers are still vastly overrated.

Hart

Mangala
Clichy

Yaya
Fernandinho

Navas
Silva
Nasri

Aguero

Id go with this. Scousers will come out like the clappers. keep it tight for 10 mins then twat em.

There are huge holes in liverpools defence and Sergio will punish them.
'keep it tight for 10 mins'?
You're 'avin a laff!

The key to this match is packing the midfield as that is Liverpool's main strength IMO so I would go (4-3-3)

I give Hart a lot of stick but he was brilliant vs Barca and rightly deserves his place. At CB I would go with Kompany & Mangala for their athleticism which will be crucial as Livepool's frontline is all about pace (Sturridge, Sterling) and I think Demichelis would have a hard time against them.

I know a lot of people will say play Sagna & Clichy at fullback but any danger from Liverpool will come from central areas (Coutinho, Sterling) and not from the wings. In fact I think that is Liverpool's main weakness, they play a back 3 with 2 wingbacks and Moreno leaves plenty of space which is why I would go for Zaba & Aleks as their attacking abilities will exploit the space left by Moreno & Johnson who can't defend for toffee.

Last season Yaya was useless at Anfield because he was playing in a 2 man midfield and couldn't cope with Liverpool's quick passing so I would put the 2 Nandos in front of the back 4 and push Yaya slightly further forward where he can still dictate the game but not have to worry about defensive duties as that is not his game.

The trio of (Yaya- Nasri- Silva) is incredible to watch and all 3 must play if we want to control the game. They are all capable of playing defence splitting passes to Aguero who has the extra motivation that a brace would be his 100th goal for City.

Hart

Zabaleta - Kompany - Mangala - Kolarov

Fernandinho - Fernando

Nasri - Yaya Touré - Silva

Aguero
Am I wrong in thinking yaya went off injured early at Anfield last season

You are correct, he was booed off by the scousers despite clearly being in a lot of pain. My point was when Garcia came on as a CDM we looked a lot more solid for the rest of the match hence why I would go for the Nando duo with Yaya just in front but you can never predict what Pelle will do. Based on the lineup vs Barca he could play Boyata up front.

I just hope we play a 5 man midfield with Aguero as a lone striker.

As good as Yaya can be, he looked a pathetic liability at Anfield before he went off last season. Formation was wrong for him. I don't want a repeat of that, so, assuming that we are to benefit from him to the full, he must have his freedom to maraud and we go with double Fern's behind him and Aguero up top on his own. MDM or Mangala - I'm not bothered which as there are pros and cons for both - with Kompany, and hopefully Kompany can sort himself out and lead us like he used to when at his best. He's looked far too dodgy lately, and he messed up there last season too, so, he needs to produce a strong performance.
Need to be up and at 'em - demoralise them, before they get going. Very difficult to predict, so, fingers crossed. To me, they are still the 3rd or 4th best team around. Luckily, they're on the Turkey trot in the Europa on Thursday, and with an early start on Sunday, it's not ideal preparation. We're due a good result there
