Southampton have rejected Manchester United's £27m bid for Luke Shaw. (Guardian)

Wow, Southampton showing some steel if true.

Well if the opening bid is £27mil, and it's fairly well known that manure will have a pretty substantial transfer kitty, Southampton can probably push up the price to the mid 30's.

35 million would be awesome.

It seems to be the going rate for promising defenders nowadays though.

Looks at Marquinhos, he was 19 and had one season in European football at Roma, had only played 32 league games in his career yet moved to PSG for €31.4 million.

We will likely be paying 35m for Mangala.

The Rags 200m won't go far at that rate.

And they already plunged out £37.1 million for Mata. It'll be interesting to see just how much money the Glazer's are willing to spend this summer.

I will piss myself laughing if they spend around £200 million in the summer and don't qualify for the CL again!!!

Not convinced by him either. Ridiculous fee. I know Fellaini cost £27m but that price is typically the rate for World Class players

Not anymore. Said it before, but the going rate for a world class player is probably 30 million now if not 32 million. Mata, Gotze, Fernandinho and Costa have all gone for at least that much. Bale, Neymar, Cavani and Falcao gone for much more.

But they might get into the cl by winning the Europa league next season.........oh wait!

This, they need at least 6/7 players to improve their deteriorating squad.
IMO They need:
A whole new back 4
A central midfielder (or two)
1 flair Attacking player (Winger/Striker)

If they spend £30m+ on a left back, not only would they have less money left but clubs will realize how desperate they are and what they'll pay and will bleed them dry. Similar to the 'City Tax' of the Garry Cook era. £17.5m for Santa Cruz, £25m for Adebayor, £22m for Lescott, £12m for Bridge etc.

Is it only me who thinks a lot of these Southampton lads are all over rated?
