Lyon CL QF Post-Match Thread

Why do we play such a high defensive line when we have zero pace at CB or DM, the ball over the top or in between the FB and CB kills us every time against quick forwards, just can't understand why we play this way with the players we currently have. I know Pep likes to pen teams in but shouldn't we be dropping off and holding a deeper back line out of possession?
It was
Pep tried to cover for those weaknesses last night but it still didn't work.

Some tactical tweaks and some new personnel are required but the high line is unlikely to go so we have to have more pace in the centre.
He cover mistakes like city is a bottom club, he bought almost all those players

You play againt Lyon not prime barca or Milan. We end up conceding shit goals, put at the least an attacking team who can scare Lyon. Confidence play a big role in modern game, Lyon whould have stayed in their area and played cautiously

Even when we trash teams i have always a feeling, a mistake is coming during the game

The elephant as you say is Pep.

We should be as a club ruthless, get rid now

He is using us as an experiment for his own views on football, fucking around with tactics, formations, players etc.

I see him as a danger to us as a club progressing further. I believe he has cost us Sane as a player and could do so with the likes of Bernardo and possibly Foden

Does anyone imagine if Kompany was around in his prime he would have stood for this. Not a chance.

11 games we have lost this season due in the main to pissing around.

I am angry and perhaps will calm down but he has cost us once again
You allowed to be angry, I’m fucking livid.

Bang on the money.

Well said. As I said on another thread, many supporters always want someone to blame and far too many think that sacking a manager or selling a player is the right response to a bad defeat.

That's not to say changes in playing personnel are not required: they are. This is a team in transition for one thing and also you should always be looking to replace your weakest links with stronger ones every summer.

Changing the manager is not the right choice at this point, backing him big time in the transfer market is the right move. You sign Pep as manager, you need to give him top quality players because that's what his system demands. He needs to stay and "rebuild" the team.
But he's entering the final year of his contract so how does he rebuild the side when he might well be on the way out?

You are also ignoring the ongoing issue of playing pedestrian midfielders at key moments in the season. We could repeat this season next, and Pep could repeat this type of team selection again.

Whatever we think about team selection, at 1-1 VAR had a major impact on the game. How an "offside" player allowing the ball to go through his legs and then subsequently score is totally beyond me. UEFA only needed one opportunity to make sure we didn't progress and they got it. I'm not denying we weren't good but there's plenty on here who should look at themselves and their comments.
Where does this bollocks come from?

Did you not see the Arsenal game where we got done by a team using exactly Lyons tactics and formation? Did you not see the Norwich game, Wolves, Spurs, United, Southampton?

Lyon are better than all of them. There's every chance we lost just as easily in a 433.

Pep doesn't make these changes for a laugh, he does it because we've got massive weaknesses that good teams have exploited all season.

I cannot understand the deluded arrogance to think we would have been untouchable in a 433 when we have seen its not true all season long.

So, you were impressed with pep’s team formation and player selection then?
Were you happy watching some of our players wandering around like headless chickens at times, a midfield 2 that were clueless and a defensive formation that did no better than in our standard 433 formation?
We have fabulous players who are used to playing in an expansive, attacking set up... they were asked to ignore everything they’ve been told/taught over the last 4 years... no wonder we lost the plot!
You are the one that’s deluded pal

I hope people like you have the bollocks to stick to your opinion that Pep is a danger the club and root of all failure when we are successful again next season and don't just try an melt into the background.

You're right. Kompany would not have accepted his team not going all out for the win in a game like this. Pep would not have dared pulling a stunt like that

For sure,

Bit is not like city didn't spend money on players he wanted.

There should accountability. We are not going to keep hearing from him " City don't have yet the experience of big clubs in Europe" it worked in his first 2 years but not now.

City spent heavily and now i have a bzd feeling hope i am wrong what would take to go further? Buy 1billion worth of players? The feeling that a 15 20 or 30million player is not enough anymore to make the team better

Hope i am wrong and next season in few days will be better
