Madeleine McCann

Ordinary my fucking arse. The very best thing you can say about them is that they left their children alone at the mercy of any passing paedophiles. While they themselves enjoyed a pleasant evening with friends.

Again, No. You are responding to how they were commonly reported in the press at the time.

They did not abandon their children to any passing peadophile.

Your mind has been coloured by the way the press reported the case, and that has been the problem since day one of the incident.

They wont have been the only family who has left kids on their own on holiday, I reckon before the Maddie case it happened more than we know (though I imagine not so much any more).

The week before last, I was at a conference centre that caters specifically for Christians and educational groups (the one where Pearcey got Swine flu!).

Anyway, all our rooms were over in a building that was just a few minutes walk away from the main building. On the last night, I had left Alex asleep wtih my mum for an hour, whose room was oppostie mine, and I went over to the bar for a drink. There I met a friend of mine who has two boys, one three one 19 months. After an hour I said I had to get back as mum wanted to go to bed and she said "he'll be fine in your room, just leave him asleep and come back". I said I couldnt do that, it wouldnt feel right. And she was like "dont be daft, whats going to happen'? My two are on their own and Im not worried, they wont wake and the door is locked". I asked what if one of them woke whilst she wasnt there and she said that wouldnt happen.

Of course, this was a conference centre and not a holiday resort. But still, I knew I couldnt do it. Mind you, some of parenting methods in general are a bit dodgy tbh.

What does everyone think to what she did?

Im a parent and there is only much you can do to protect your kids BUT LEAVING THEM ALONE WHILE YOU GO OUT ON THE PISS is a no-no.Ive just come back off holiday and my two kids slept in the room next to me.The only way they would have got taken in the night would have been if some monster broke in,knowing we were out and took them.
Yes the parents have suffered due to their child being abducted but simple fact is,they left them alone,on several occasions, out of sight, they should be at least condemned under law for that. You can say what you like but if it was some two bit scally council estate scum they would have been driven out the country by now.
NEVER EVER let your kids out of your sight, not even in the supermarket as this world is full of fucking weirdo`s young and old.Just look at what happened to Jamie Bulger.
Going off on a tangent slightly..
On holiday there was this young kid, wandering round the arcades, parents were in the hotel bar getting pissed,he was a proper little shit, bullying other kids, trying to pinch there dino cards etc...where were his parents? It took my other half and another woman to tell him off.Scum bastard parents turned up later and surprise they were a couple of scally twats who were more concerned about getting pissed and swearing than there kids. That little fucker is destined to be another criminal if his shitehawk parents have there way.Theres some awful scum parents in this country who need a good kick up the arse by the government.
Sorry rant over.

Look, we all know the Mcanns shouldn't have left their children alone, nipping back to check every half hour or so was so irresponsible, whether it was some jeremy kyle regular, or intelligent members of the medical proffesion, it was wrong. But lets not lose track of the poor girl, i hope and pray that she will be found alive, i doubt she will, if it wasn't maddie from her room it would have been another child snatched from elsewhere. I'm not going to talk about predatory peado's as i could honestly say i could "do one in". The Mcanns have suffered enough, you dont have to blame them, they will do that themselves every waking day for the rest of their lives.

This.

Unless the sleeping tablet theory is the truth.

You are obviously not a parent.

You'll learn when you've grown up.
im not a parent, and dont know if you are, but would you leave your 3 year old child alone in another country while you went for a meal? i know for a fact that it wouldnt even cross my mind to do that

needs perspective.

And in the case of a fire?

I NEVER left my kids un-supervised when they were young. Even now in their early teens I would think twice.

I have 3 kids, youngest is now 18. I never left them unsupervised until they were teenagers. I saw it as my job as a parent unlike those posters who seem to think it is OK to abandon your kids when it suits cos they get in the way and anyone who excuses the McCanns feckless behaviour by claiming everyone does it is a stupid fool.

I'm responding to their shit parenting. To say they got bad press is ridiculous, they hired their own PR company ffs.

It's reverse snobbery from the 'have nots' who read the gutter press. These rats are loving being able to bash the middle class whilst smoking 40 a day inside their houses, letting their kids run riot, never working and generally acting like animals.... but hey at least they are not as bad as those horrible McCans.....laughable really.

If theirs is reverse snobbery what's yours, just regular snobbery?

There are hundreds of kids that go missing every year but nothing is ever heard of them. The whole episode was a demonstration of how low our media outlets have sunk and how easily popular opinion can be manipulated.

No Im just a realist who hates scummers jumping on the bandwagon and will not bash decent people, (doctors who help people) for making a mistake that 1000's of others have done/

It wasn't just a mistake, it was neglect that lead to a young girls probable murder. I suppose Harold Shipman was ok in your eyes too.

Parents are selfish these days. I use to work in a posh coffee/health food shop in Altrincham and the amount of mums who use to come and meet each other to 'do lunch' with their kids was unreal. The thing is the kids would be bored after five minutes but they never let it bother them. I got the impression that the kids came very much second best to what the mums wanted. If you've got kids why do you need to go away with friends? Take them to a child friendly holiday resort or leave them at home. I don't have kids but when/if I do then they will come first every time.

We all make mistakes in our life. There was the court case the other day involving the girl that killed someone when she was on the motorway and took her eyes of the road for a second to change radio stations. And we all do that sort of thing from time to time but we get away with it.

However, leaving three children under 3 alone for as long as they did is NOT a "one of those things" type of mistake. It's at best wickedly irresponsible and could be construed as a criminal offence under the Children & Young Persons Act (1933). Here's what the NSPCC says:
Never leave your baby or young child home alone, not even for a few minutes, regardless of whether they are sleeping or awake. The risks and dangers are too great.
To use a motoring analogy, it's like driving with a blindfold on.

There are too many question marks in their story for my liking. My deep suspicion is that they are using the regular unveiling of a new "suspect" to divert attention from their own failings, whether that was something they didn't, at worst, did do. I don't doubt that, whatever happened, they are grieving. It must be terrible for them if she really has been abducted. But that was eminently preventable and, being educated health professionals, they above all should have realised that.

As I said
anyone who excuses the McCanns feckless behaviour by claiming everyone does it is a stupid fool.
and the most stupid member of Blue Moon comes up with it!
Pillock.

If the McCann's had been from a council estate they'd have already been hanged... I'm not saying they did it, because I, like everyone else on here, don't know enough about the real evidence... Also I don't read the gutter press so I don't even know what they're saying. And why should I? This shouldn't be allowed to be front page news IMO, because it just sensationalises a very sad situation. Journalists and Editors have a lot to answer for!
