Surely most blues will want to stay in the centre so unless you want to risk turning up for your ticket at the last minute, it means you will have to drag yourself up to the Bernabeau twice

I would suggest the authorities want us to say close by the ground, hence advising us that we can eat and drink near to the stadium, having collected our tickets, as per the info in the advice sheet. They can't make us of course, and plenty will head for other places. But, I've seen Madrid, I'm going to watch the game and have a few drinks, I'm only there the day, so I won't be tempting fate and straying too far from the stadium area, there's loads of places to eat and drink around it.

I'm a bit pissed off that the collection point is near the stadium as as I'll be pushed for time now. I was hoping to have a few around the Plaza Mayor area in the afternoon.

Does anybody know of an area around the stadium for drinks that is not 'designated' by the club or Police.

Rang City this morning as not received letter or email. Lass on the phone emailed it through straight away.

Out of the 3 tickets i bought, only one of us got the letter.

Well, we land at 1015 on Wednesday and are then coached directly to the ticket collection point, I would guess for around 12pm, hopefully only 1 hour there to get my ticket and wristband, the rest of the day is ours. I intend, having spent £500 plus, getting to the turnstiles for around 7pm, that gives me 6 hours to eat and drink, and I won't be doing it too far from the stadium, cos its cheaper there, and I've gone to watch the game, not troop around Madrid looking at gardens, pretty water features or architecture, or getting my pocket picked on the transport network. I'd have booked a 2 night stay to do that.
The upshot is, take heed of the advice given, they know how long it takes....Simples.

You can get your pocket picked anywhere, not just on the metro or in the city centre. Don't think you're immune to it because you're closer to the stadium because that's a very naive view to take. And the more alcohol consumed tends to see one's guard dropped and I include myself in that.

I expect most day trippers will either head direct to the collection point, or head to the centre first for a few hours (there doesn't seem much point going into the centre of Madrid unless you stay there for at least 3-4 hours). Which would mean two peak queuing periods with perhaps a lull around 3-5pm.

Yep, a bit awkward if you're on a day trip and you've not got a hotel room to stash your passport in once you've collected your ticket. When we played Bayern away in 2011 I was on the Singapore Airlines flight on the day of the game and flying back about 6 the next morning on the same flight. Had no digs booked so brought my coat and had my passport in the inside pocket. Trouble is, it turned out to be warmer than was originally forecast and was sweating my bollocks off during the day!
