Madrid v City CL semi final 2nd leg

Has anyone else noticed we always get special offers from MCFC Shop after a bad result. 40% off today :)
Yeah, I've always clocked that too! Don't think they could give them away right now. And with the new badge coming out next season there'll be a mountain of unwanted stock sat in the Kitbag warehouse!!

Real were so poor they didnt allow the 5 or 6th best team in europe shot on target? Either we are not 5th or 6th in europe or real played very well
Or we had an off game.

Real won by a lucky own goal. And they should have had a player sent off in the 85th minute or so.

It was a pretty close thing - either team could have advanced.

And neither side played anywhere near to their potential.

Which EPL squad do you think is better and deeper than ours?

Line your squad up against City's, player for player, position by position and let's see.

Problem is you are basing your assertions on the basis of reputation alone, you are not taking their ages, fitness into account. Its hard to look past the reputation of a players like Silva, toure, zabaleta who used to best in their positions or someone like kompany or aguero who are so injury prone.

I contend that we're far better and deeper.

It's basically our manager who's the problem, though TBF, we've been hit by a lot of injuries this season (which is why a comfortable 3rd place finish would be reasonable for me).

There are fine margins in football and the fickle nature of the football world over exaggerate every problem.

Over the 4 legs of both CL semi finals, Bayern and Real Madrid were the better sides by a country mile. They dominated the games both in chances created and possession. Yet Bayern went out.

Atletico get lauded as some sort of footballing masterclass but their style heavily relies on luck. On another day Muller scores his penalty and/or Greizmann gets flagged for offside and its Atletico who go out with a whimper.

I wonder if that Aguero shot would have whistled into the top corner if we would have been getting lauded as a tactical masterclass?

Defensively Pellegrini got it spot on in both legs. I can't even criticise him over our slow and turgid style because it's been like that under him for 18 months now. To expect anything different was stupid. That said, he should have been working on specific attacking plays during the week and I honestly don't think Pepe and Ramos will have an easier nights work for the rest of their career.

We had zero shape, ideas, forward runs and the manager willingly allowed our only CF to play in every position but a CF.

Sorry but this is nonsense. We were absolutely hammered, we were insipid, and had no idea on how to quickly move the ball to create space.

Real could and should have scored 3/4. We were an absolute disgrace, and the lads should hang their fucking heads in shame.

This is closer to the truth

Agree with most of this. Especially Aguero - the manager needed to have had Kun stay forward and change things up to give him service.

As for Atletico... I don't think it's luck at all - anymore so than any 2 teams facing one another. In a one-off (or less so over 2 legs) a really bad team could potentially win through sheer luck.

But Atletico intentionally play on the break. They've got most of their team in the box for God's sake on defense a lot of the time.

What happens though is that the opposition gets frustrated.

Eventually a winger or a center back or maybe a winger and a center back both get drawn into the offense.

Suddenly the ball turns over. A long pass up to the strikers. A deft touch a header and then a good pass see the 2 strikers through against a 2-on-2 situation.

And Atletico have the class to score.

Time and again this happens - so it's definately not luck for me.

In contrast... I still can't figure out how in hell Chelsea won it in 2011/2012... that, was luck.

Banned for your shit spelling of awful!

Shut. I had my keyb set on a different language; just realized. Nah, I'm a fan from a diff team but was rooting for City yesterday half hoping to see Sergio score a goal or two. Anyhow awful tactics. City (last two games I've watched) could use some ball retention just over half the pitch until your forwards get in better position. This thing about losing the ball half a sec after turnovers was dismal. Anyhow I don't mean to be critical, I don't think it is nice from a guest.

Don't wanna dog players who work hàrd but.......
Otamendi, mangala, Fernando, clichy and sagna all are so uncomfortable on the ball and look to pass to someone else to take responsibility.
This then puts too much burden on the likes of yaya, kdb and silva, who have limited options.

To me we need a ball playing centre back (stones) two centre mids comfortable on ball (krooz, gundogan etc), a plan b forward (lewandowski type) to mix it up and maybe cross a ball occasionally.
Probably two full backs and a fit silva kemp any and nasri.

I also think pellegrini knows squad is too old, unbalanced and not good enough, so he felt only way was to stay in shape and nick a goal.
Otherwise take a beating
Either way he did best he could in champs league
Prem league though he has blown big time
