Manchester’s Changing Skyline

In your opinion which property developer has done the best for Manchester and it's skyline in the last decade or so and which will be the best for Manchester in the future?

Not sure about the best. That’s all down to personal taste in towers and buildings.

Renaker have been and still are the most prolific tower builder and property developer in Manchester.(city centre)

Salboy(Fred Done) isn’t far behind now, and has emerged out of nowhere in the last few years. Salboy are building the tallest tower in Manchester City centre, Viadux 2.

Allied London have been around for years and have built some good buildings and the odd tower.(No1 Spinnjngfields) They’ve developed Spinningfields, and are now developing St John’s/Enterprise City. I’ve got a soft spot for Allied London.

Burntwood are another good property developer that have been around for years. They’ve come out of renting offices and are now concentrating on life sciences and redeveloping the UMIST site. Their Circle Square development on Oxford Rod looks great.

Ask Real Estate have done a fantastic job with First Street. It’s taken a long time, but it’s become a new city centre district in it’s own right, with more buildings under construction and proposed.

TBH I really haven’t much time for Peel Holdings. They tend to throw up any crap and give little thought to the buildings they design and build. Mediacity being a prime example, and the new apartment blocks being built on Pomona Islands, etc.

Gary Neville’s St Michael’s development could be the best looking tower to be built in the city centre. In fact, it will be. :-) The St Michael’s development as a whole looks superb. Another level up.

Far East Consortium are building some good looking towers and buildings at Middlewood Locks, Victoria North, Red Bank, etc. Defiantly a property developer to keep an eye on in the future.

Urban Splash have been around for decades. Even though they don’t build towers or tall buildings, they've had a huge and positive impact on city centre living for decades. They were pretty much the first Manchester city centre property developer.

ECF (English Cities Fund) have developed New Bailey into a completely new business district with some fantastic looking office blocks.

There are plenty of other Manchester based property developers who are building in the city centre. As a city we’re very lucky to have so many big and successful property developers based in the city, more so than any other regional city.

Great to see the progress down on site at One Port Street by Select Property this afternoon.

It will be the first development of its kind for the Northern Quarter, standing at 32 stories the development will be the tallest residential building in the neighbourhood and will be set amongst some of the cities best independent restaurants, bars and art galleries.

Phase Two of St Michael's Manchester!

A big milestone reached being at the lowest possible point of the site and over the next 24 months it will build up 41 stories.

Can’t wait to share more with you.

Look at the exterior cladding on the office block. Imagine that on the 41 storey tower. :-)

Connolly Scaffolding

Connolly Scaffolding Ltd have now completed and handed over to our valued client McCrory Holdings and Aaron Williams on the prestigious St Michael's development in the heart of Manchester City Centre. Yet another project delivered in System Scaffold. Connolly Scaffolding Ltd have invested £5 million into System Scaffold. Why? Because it's versatile, quick to erect & dismantle which in turn boosts productivity. Our clients recognise the benefits and want System Scaffold to be used on their projects.

Contour - The latest addition to New Jackson is now on the rise!

Designed by Simpson Haugh for RENAKER, sees the delivery of two residential towers sitting adjacent to Deansgate Square, each to rise to an eventual height of 154m, across 52 floors.

The core for the first tower now sits prominently above street-level, whilst excavation is well underway for the second tower.

Landscaped public realm will link the two towers.

AND THAT’S A WRAP. On the Bankside, Colliers Yard Project

Huge thank you to all our lads on site putting in the graft to make this project look so good. We’ve had a great time on this site for almost a year, undertaking substructure brickwork, detailed facing brickwork, masonry support, secondary steel, cavity fire barriers and internal blockwork️ Here’s to the next one.

I guess I can’t call that one "bland"! Please tell me that's not the final colour. It's gruesome!

Looks like the piling is now complete. Piling rigs have gone.

It’s brick, Jim. Brick is never bland. :-)

It’s going to look superb.

It wouldn’t look out of place in New York or Chicago.

The thing is Jim, apart from London, there isn’t another UK city that has got such a fantastic mix of old and new buildings, (Manchester red) brick and glass buildings, side by side, in juxtaposition to one another, creating an interesting, varied, and vibrant street scape. That’s why I love walking around Manchester City centre. New and interesting streetscapes and city centre districts are being created all the time as the city centre grows outwards, and ghost car parks and derelict plots of land in and around the city are being redeveloped with new buildings.
