Manchester’s Changing Skyline

Happy for the expansion but much of the other in flooding of investment is primarily speculation. Hope Manchester weathers the global economic downturn better than other areas.

MCR seems to have weathered the downturn quite well. Property developers are still ploughing ahead with residential, offices, leisure, etc.

Don’t want to be too negative about the North stand expansion, but there definitely are some weak points to it. The hotel and hotel shape being the main one. I’d have liked a curved structure that housed the stand, hotel, museum, offices, plaza that mirrored the shape of the Etihad stadium.

People will get a similar but better view of the city centre skyline from the platforms on the roof walk corners.

These pictures were taken from the top of the CBS spiral before the players coach arrived on Wednesday.

Current towers under construction and finished and new towers under construction will be visible on the city centre skyline in 2 to 3 years time when the North stand expansion is completed.

Unfortunately it looks like some of the buildings original architecture will be lost in the redevelopment. Hopefully some of the original architecture on the upper floors will be restored and saved?

A central atrium will be created to improve daylighting levels across all floors and allow the stack effect to be utilised, which boosts natural ventilation flow rates and reduces the need for mechanical ventilation and cooling.
