It's all very well building all these skyscrapers, but the infrastructure isn't there to support the movement of all the extra people into and around the city.
Anyone who was trying to drive or even walk around the city yesterday will know what I mean.
Things got very bad on the rail network too when a fatality occurred at Hebden Bridge in addition to the planned engineering work on the route to Huddersfield via Stalybridge, causing massive delays and overcrowding.
I can only see the situation becoming worse when all the new people move into the area. ( with all their extra cars and vans, deliverooers, drag along suitcases, oversized pushchairs and mobility scooters to accommodate too).
Manchester is bursting at the seams.

I'll put it in the 4 New Bailey thread as well.

BT has announced the opening of its new multi-million-pound office in the heart of Manchester. The opening of Four New Bailey is the final step in BT Group’s five year, UK-wide ‘Better Workplace’ transformation programme, which set out to consolidate the company’s office spaces from around 300 to closer to 30 key locations.

Four New Bailey will house up to 2,000 colleagues from across BT Group and has been fitted with state-of-the-art technology. It also boasts a rooftop terrace offering panoramic views of the city’s skyline. Sitting on the banks of the River Irwell.

Unfortunately the roads can't be widened, and new roads can't be built. Every major city in the UK is experiencing the same issue. Manchester more so, as the city centre population has exploded, and is increasing all the time. The only way to try and tackle the issue is by greater investment in public transport, which will help, but it won't solve the growing problem.

A quick heads up to everyone.

The Great Manchester Run takes place on the 18th of May. The Mancunian Way will be closed in both directions between 6am and 1pm, which gives YOU the opportunity to walk along the Mancunian WAY and view the city centre skyline from an elevated vantage point, specifically above First Street, and other parts of the city centre along the Mancunian Way. Previously I've worn a high viz ;-), but I've seen people walking along the Mancunian Way without wearing a high viz.

I know I've been critical of a lot of the new buildings that have sprung up in the last, say, 20 years. To me, they're largely bland, soulless boxes. But I actually don't mind that one. I like the lattice effect.

Yes, it's one of the more interesting new office blocks.

I like it as well.
