Manchester’s Changing Skyline

Fuck me, I don’t know if this me me approaching the FOC group on here, but im
Used to things happening just because they’ve happened. How can someone get away with burning something down because they were refused whatever, and then something gets built in its place? I thought I was savvy!

Having spent 43 years working in insurance claims investigation the levels of fraud would amaze you - and I reckon we probably only "found" about 25% of what was going on. There was plenty of stuff that smelled fishy but without any proof or anything to go on we were powerless.

I'll put it in the 4 New Bailey thread as well.

BT has announced the opening of its new multi-million-pound office in the heart of Manchester. The opening of Four New Bailey is the final step in BT Group’s five year, UK-wide ‘Better Workplace’ transformation programme, which set out to consolidate the company’s office spaces from around 300 to closer to 30 key locations.

Four New Bailey will house up to 2,000 colleagues from across BT Group and has been fitted with state-of-the-art technology. It also boasts a rooftop terrace offering panoramic views of the city’s skyline. Sitting on the banks of the River Irwell.

Is it a great idea to drag 2000 people into the 'heart of Manchester ' every day ?

How will that help congestion?

Is this a serious post?

It's called employment and people especially young people want to work in a busy city centre.

Working from home has been found to have several negative impacts. And employers are realising the benefits of office working again. It's great for the economy of city centres.

SalboyBen, who works for Salboy, has just posted this on the Nobu Tower (Manchester's tallest proposed tower) thread on SSC-MCR

Correct, construction can't start until Gateway 2 approval.

‘We’re looking forward to bringing this exciting project to life in the coming months!’
DD London is referring to the brand positioning, CGI's and marketing collateral - quite a bit of work that goes into that ahead of the launch.

Diecast, the popular venue will become a permanent fixture of a comprehensive overhaul of the former foundry site off Store Street featuring homes, two hotels, and 130,000 sq ft of workspace.

An updated plan for the site designed by SimpsonHaugh shows the area divided into six plots earmarked for buildings rising to 49 storeys.

A city council report states that the latest thinking for the site is to bring forward:

  • 1,400 homes
  • A 300-400 bed hotel
  • A 100-200 bed aparthotel
  • 130,000 sq ft of workspace
  • 70,000 sq ft of leisure, retail, and event space
  • Around 40% green space

The concrete core going up is the 44 storey W Manchester tower.

Place North West.

The local authority has approved Progressive Living and Picture This’ plans for a 245-home scheme at Fletcher Street.

The partnership is now set to deliver 100 one-bedroom apartments, 91 two-bedroom apartments, 42 three-bedroom apartments, and 12 two-bedroom townhouses on the site of the derelict Victoria House office and the adjacent Fletcher Street surface-level car park.

Hi JRB, do you know what happened to Pressbar? Did they move somewhere?

Another boring, dull, bland, uninspiring, I could go to, proposal for Pomona from Peel.

7 mid-rise apartment blocks, crammed in a row, one after another, and 3 bland towers, with a small park at the end of Pomona.

Knowing Peel, it will be value engineered to death with poor architecture, and it will take decades to build.

What exactly is there in that proposal to attract people to Pomona unless you live in there. Nothing!

No exciting architecture, no culture, no leisure, no retail, no bars and restaurants, no use of the water, etc.
