Manchester City Developments Limited

I have no doubt Sheikh Mansour has big plans for development, but to build another stadium???

There is land available around CoMS, but I can see no way that a new Stadium would be built, in the same way that I cannot see Sheikh Mansour wanting to continue leasing CoMS from the Council. I think a deal will eventually be struck with the City Council for the Sheikh to buy CoMS outright along with the surrounding undeveloped land.

Thaksin had big plans for the land around CoMS, unfortuantely from his point of view, he just didn't have the funds to achieve his dream, which is why he got in bed with ADUG for investment. Thaksin will no doubt have sold his vision to the Sheikh and thankfully the Sheikh took it on board. All that Thaksin was able to develop was the Vermillion Thai Restaurant close to CoMS, which looks totally out of place....... but will it look out of place in the future?

Sportcity is crying out for The Metrolink and it is an abosolute disgrace that it still isn't in place. Just look at Salford Quays and see the development down there. Without Metrolink, there would not be half the development down there that there is, such as Media City. Having said this, no Metrolink may be something ADUG noted, knowing that it is eventually coming to CoMS and the surrounding areas. Whislt 'we' rejected The 'C' Charge last year, who is to say that ADUG or thier big brother ADIA wont invest in something like Metrolink...... ADUG do invest to make money, what would be nicer to know that United fans are being ferried to The Swamp in trams operated/invested in by the Sheikh, giving more money to his family's Empire.

So, back to the Stadium, I think this will be purchased and developed when required, let's be honest, we don't need the capacity yet. An entertainment complex could be developed on the spare land, hotels, etc. One thing is for sure, whatever is built, it will be spectacular, just look at ADIA HQ in Abu Dabi-

Imagine something like that being lit up at night in Sky Blue.... it would make the Beetham Tower look like a has been!.... just like United will be!

How long does it take to build a stadium? Does it look feasible that construction starts at the end of this season and building open next season? I don't think so, but I don't know much about these things either. I've seen house built in a week so what do I know :)
my god, you've really seen a house built in a week?! - I trust this was in lego?

Yeah on that American TV show, Extreme Makeover. They sent the family on vacation for a week and built the house from scratch. All pre-fabricated walls etc, so its doable.

To answer your original question, it would not even be remotely possible to build a stadium from scratch in the close season. It would take an absolute minimum of 2 years.

Thanks Dubai Blue. Have you seen the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium by chance. Wow! what a stadium. It cost $1 billion but it is awesome. Can't remember how long it too to build though.

Wasn't there talk as well as to increasing the capacity of the COMS? Wouldn't a remodel of the COMS be doable in less time than building a new stadium?

Not seen it, but will check it out.

Any remodelling work on COMS would be a HUGE and extremely expensive job. It would also likely cause a lot of disruption over at least two seasons. All this expense, time, and disruption would result in a maximum of 12,000 extra seats, which isn't really worth the effort.

IMO, a new stadium is more likely to happen than an extension to COMS, and I think the chances of a new stadium are extremely remote.

Hey, Rammy, you're on 1999 posts so make the next one a good 'un. ;) I reckon it's to do with us being the employer. That is we get building work done under our terms and conditions only. Sounds good to me - no Rags, no slackers etc.

Casino's, casino's, casino's and then a big hotel to accommodate
all the gamblers. Clayton's answer to Vegas..

This is very popular in Spain. Particularly at Real Madrid because of their close ties with the city's corrupt authorities.
