It's a media shitstorm in the midst of which City do nothing.

Sadly, you can only see one reason why no statement is being issued. The obvious course of action would be to officially refute all the rumours and speculation. It's not happening because the rumours and speculation are not unfounded.

Remember Sven's last game, when everybody knew he was going?
We're possibly waiting for the owner?

The rumours/stories over the past week have not been simply that City are seeking to replace Mancini, but are much more specific; that Soriano and Begiristain have identified Pellegrini as the best man to work as head coach with Begiristain as the director of football so that all coaching at the club would be coordinated. These stories gave the press the double edged weapon they wanted - a blade to undermine the club at a crucial period whilst giving the opportunity to attack the club by defending the record of their target.

Our club's policy is not to comment on rumour and only to make an announcement when there is something to announce. This is an admirable policy, but only 99% of the time, and the 1% when it is a disaster was last week. Our team arrived at Wembley on Saturday afternoon looking as though it had just lost a relegation dogfight and not as though it was about to contest a cup final. Vinnie stormed onto the pitch, hands in pockets, looking sour and angry. Other players looked flat and drained. Mancini looked miserable. The press had done its work well, City were leaden legged and sapped of morale: Roberto was even heavy limbed on the touch line. We didn't play and Wigan won deservedly. I respect the players for stating that they would not blame the rumours about the manager for the defeat, and I'm not going to argue that Wigan owe the cup to them - I applaud Wigan for their success - but our players wouldn't have beaten anyone on Saturday.

By Sunday morning it was done and dusted. Mancini was history, sacked within 48 hours, Pellegrini was even seen at terminal 3 of M'cr airport in the late afternoon, Hansen was explaining why Mancini deserved the sack (unlike his great mate at Liverpool) and the usual crew on here were explaining why Pellegrini, Klopp, Mourinho or, well anyone in fact, would have bettered Mancini's record since Dec 2009. And then Pellegrini turned up at Malaga's match last night, and said he was not the manager of City, he had had no contact with the club, that he had a clause in his contract with Malaga not to talk to anyone and that this was the time of the year for this kind of gossip.

The only other person to speak out is Roberto Mancini and he dismissed the rumours as "rubbish" and criticised the PR department and Vicky in particular. I have to agree with him. I cannot believe the men at our club would be negotiating contracts to replace the manager in the week of a cup final. Failure to quash these rumours has, possibly, cost us the cup - we would at least have pushed a very good Wigan team a bit harder! They have done, and are still doing, our club great harm. I think a statement saying that Roberto has a contract with 4 years to run and the club intends to honour it. If they won't do this they should explain why they are trying to replace him.
read the MENS piece of the Cup Final and you will know why they are trying to replace him.

He is entirely to blame for the unhappy squad, but this should have been dealt with months back.

Oh right, i get it now sorry for being slow, i now know what you did earlier Marvin

If Barcelona are sniffing around we could be in deep shit, the way he was peddled from Madrid would certainly get my back up, what better way to get the ultimate revenge than go to the arch enemy and become there manager and be successful.

Worrying times at the moment, whose realistically left if he chooses Barca over us? Barca have made it public to get him to make a decision-who would you choose if you had the choice?
Heynckes. Laudrup. Vieira

Get an in-house caretaker in, and then appoint a manager when one becomes available. This should have been done months back.

Apologises if this has been posted, but a very balanced article by the Guardian on the situation:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2013/may/12/roberto-mancini-manchester-city" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog ... ester-city</a>

What I didn't realise is that Pellegrini's agent doesn't represent any footballers. I though Isco was on his books?

How likely is it that Pellagrini is still not sure about coming - we therefore cant punt Bobby but equally we are then in a position to neither deny or confirm the rumours

what anj utter mess

can someone bring me up to date with the facts this morning please
I couldn't make up my mind between cornflakes or shredded wheat.
I decided on cornflakes.
But you'd been telling us all along that you were going with Shredded Wheat as you'd been having it every morning and the Cornflakes just haven't been crispy enough. So then at the last minute you pick Cornflakes and you wonder why the Shredded Wheat is pissed off?

Will Barca get rid of Vilanova? Bit harsh after what he has been through this season and they won the league.

I think it is more of whether Tito feels healthy enough to continue next season. I think the decision is very much with him.

You should have bought in some more quality breakfast cereal before the season started. Then you wouldn't be in this position.

I think it's the PR that's the problem. Shredded wheat has a much better pr dept. having kicked butt previously it now gets a much better press than cornflakes

You're right, who can forget the "cornflakes eaten by under age children" scandal?!! I know I won't.

He was in the dugout last night - is he not now over the worst?

Big mistake.
I suppose I could have handled it better.
After everything shredded wheat has done for me, to treat it that way was despicable. I mean, the box of cornflakes was in the cupboard watching, ready to take it's place. The cornflakes released a statement this morning, "the rumours about 2sheikhs eating me are completely unfounded. I haven't even spoken to him."
The shredded wheat has returned to the cupboard and has blamed the spoon, the bowl and the milk for not backing it up and quashing the speculation.

I've just had one of your ex weetabix on the phone going coco pops, says you're a "cereal offender". Could you clarify or will you take the silent approach?

Pellegrini:

has won just one trophy in all his time in Europe
an intertoto cup
is 60 years old this year
has had more clubs than arnold palmer
currently has a win rate of less than 40%

yes he managed real madrid for a season but despite buying all those galacticos like kaka, ronaldo, benzema, alonso etc and still didn't win the title

he has however got a team further in the champions league than Bobby has managed before seeing them get knocked out

on the other hand Bobby is eleven years younger and has won ten bits of silverware in two of Europes toughest leagues in the last decade since Pellegrini won his sole Inter Toto trophy

not really an obvious 'upgrade' is it?

ahhh but he plays a better brand of flair football they say

well so do Arsenal and they struggle to qualify for the champions league these days let alone win anything.....and to our owners the need to win silverware is apparently paramount

so you could therefore understand that if Bobby's face does not fit in the corridors of power that we might be out there offering the earth to one of the truly big hitters in world football management

but this guy?????????

if they can't get the big hitter now then they should swallow their pride and doubts and set Bobby some clear new targets on both performance and perhaps even style; allow him the time and money to bring in the calibre of player he was not allowed to bring in last close season; and back him for the time being

we have seen what he is capable of and no he is not perfect

but given events at the swamp now would be a good time to squeeze the best out of a proven Premier League winner rather than opting for another period of uncertainty, re-build and transition

I say back him, properly back him, and set clear expectations about what is expected of him i.e. the league title and progress beyond the group stages in the champs league if he wants to remain beyond next season

And stop allowing the medja to undermine him the way they have. Control the medja interaction in the way that the rags did with baconface. That works both ways.

all this bollox about being a prickly character well look across town and see that it didn't stop baconface bringing in a record haul and even that twat had barren seasons

and finally if it's a choice between the manager and someone like Marwood because they can't work together then bin fricking Marwood and find someone else who can

It's all just a smokescreen. I'm secretly hoping Alpen will turn up. It's Swiss, so it has European pedigree.

We have some great players that Mancini and City have assembled, but they aren't playing to their max under Mancini any more. Look at Silva and Aguero. It's an unhappy camp and it will disintegrate if Mancini continues.
