Mancini (cont)

Another thing that amazes me.

What the hell is this 'if we build it will come', 'right now we aren't at the level of bayern and real' etc'. History over a few years has nothing to do with cup competition. You get the best out your squad and you set up to win games. If you win you progress and you do so with a good squad.

PSG have been around even less time than we have. They managed to get out the group first time of asking and may even get into the semis with a victory tonight. They haven't built over years, they haven't this collective group experience, heck their best players only joined this bloody summer. Silva, Ibrahimovic and Lavezzi being examples.

It's excuse making and nothing else.

Agree with this. Baconface took over the rags in 1986. Didn't win Europe's elite competiton until 1999. 13 years, but in that time he'd built United into the major domestic force in English football.

Mancini has done an incredible in the 3 years he's been with us. 5 year contract in the bag last summer. There's really no point in this discussion, other than to feed half a dozen poster's delusions that they know better.
He did win the cup winners cup in his first european season at united.

But the European Cup was the elite European competition of the day.

And the Cup Winners Cup was won in his 5th season in charge.
They only qualified for that after beating 2nd div. Crystal Palace in an FAcup final replay .(in the Mark Robins effect /fuck off Jim Leighton season)
You're right about the European cup Flash,it was indeed the elite comp of the day only participated in by the domestic champions and holders at the time.

Sport Bild: Mourinho will join Chelsea this summer & aims to bring Khedira with him

But as he's just said, it was still a European success at the first attempt. And trust me, you won't find me sticking up for that Pisscan ****.
At Mancini's age (48) Bacon had won 3 titles and 4 cups (all in Scotland) compared to Mancini's 4 titles and 5 cups (in Italy & England). The only place where he was ahead was that he had won one European trophy with Aberdeen (the Cup Winners Cup). He had also been at United for 4 years and won nothing (just coming up to his 1st FA cup)

the difference is that we apparently have to win the league every season or the manager is toast

Not true.

We have to at least be in good form and compete. Not give title up mid feb, out of CL last and out of CC to a woeful Villa outfit. An FA Cup run which is one of the kindest ever will help to save the season.

PSG didn't come out of nowhere like we arguably did.

In fact, there is no "arguably" about it

I think the Michael Essien quote the other week may have been a pointer when he said he believes he (ie Michael Essien) will be back at Chelsea next season.

Don't make me laugh. PSG were almost anonymous in France until the investment. Granted they won the odd trophy but they hadn't won a league in 15 years or so before being invested into. Lyon and Marseille have had that league sewn up for years until recently.

First chance in Europe and they have a new squad as I pointed out and yet they have a chance to progress into the semi finals tonight.

Edit, don't mistake the point of my post. My point is that this collective experience stuff is nonsense, PSG prove it. They have turned over a whole squad, they are still bedding in players right now like Moura and yet they are leading a poor league and also in the QF of CL on their first attempt.
