Mancini (cont)

For someone who wants to take the debate to a higher plane you're certainly spending a lot of time discussing me, and not my thoughts on Mancini.

Wow. Now we're here? Are we ready to discuss our thoughts and opinions without saying one or the other has an agenda or other such bullshit?

I've already discussed my thoughts on your post match assessment. And you cracked the sads and have been bitching about me ever since.

This exactly. How the fuck we are even discussing the possibility of binning a manager who wins (possibly) four trophies in four years is breathtaking.

I expect nothing but wonderful replies from this, but this is the prevailing OPINION over the whole counter-argument.

Probably because our expectations differ from the owners? The FA cup and Community Shield, however great they may be to have won, are not why City was bought and heavily invested into. Those trophies bring domestic plaudits, but for a club that is trying to have global appeal, an international brand so-to-speak, they mean a lot less than the league title, or Champions League success (no I don't mean winning it, at least not anytime soon).

If you look at what the owner will want to win, vs, what has been won, the investment and corresponding expectations aren't matching up.

-- Mon Apr 15, 2013 12:06 pm --

I'm pretty sure all I got in response to an honest assessment was bile and insults. I'm pretty sure you were among them.

How about I try to coax some substance out of you?

Do you think two FA cups (hopefully), a community shield, and one league title in four years, is adequate for the ambitions/investment of the club?

(yes or no, with a brief explanation will suffice.)

For a club that was skint, had shit players and had won fuck all for many years I'd say that is more than adequate. You need to be a hell of a lot more realistic and get it through your head that spending money does not mean we automatically should be winning the Champions League. 2 teams in the semi were in our group ffs. I think if the draw favours us a bit more next season and Mancini gets the players he wants in the summer we will have a very good CL campaign next year.

I am happy as well, but I seriously doubt Mansour is. As I've said a dozen times, I would be happy with us mid-table, as we all were pre-take over. We don't support the club because of a trophy haul. I'm simply stating the obvious fact that City is not being the recipient of a massive investment to win domestic cup competitions.

Do you disagree that this investment is made whole by a run of cup trophies? Also, try to answer the original question, please.

Bile and insults? FFS, don't you think you're being just a bit precious (especially given you haven't been shy in handing insults yourself).

As for you question, yes I am satisfied with our progress.

Took over a side in 6th place, and has led us to 5th, 3rd, 1st and probable 2nd place finishes. Certainly matches my expectations from back then. One and maybe two FA Cup wins is just a magical bonus and great achievement as are some of the best performances we've seen (Spurs away, 1-6 etc). We are not the only club to spend money, and over the last two seasons the rags, Chelsea and (I think) Liverpool all have a bigger net spend than ours. I think our signings have generally been good for the money spent.

This year has been a disappointment, more in the manner we've played than the fact that we won't win the title. Champions League has been a disappointment. But for me it's been the first backwards step after 3 years of constant progress. And hopefully it will still be a pretty good backward step.

If he's around next year the pressure will be on. We'll have to put in a good challenge for the league at a minimum, and we'll have to do much better in the champions league. I think we'll do both.
