Why dont you tell us what you think was expected ?? we are happy so far,its you that thinks its not good enough.

I am happy as well, but I seriously doubt Mansour is. As I've said a dozen times, I would be happy with us mid-table, as we all were pre-take over. We don't support the club because of a trophy haul. I'm simply stating the obvious fact that City is not being the recipient of a massive investment to win domestic cup competitions.

Do you disagree that this investment is made whole by a run of cup trophies? Also, try to answer the original question, please.

the fact is you dont know what the owner thinks, you are assuming his opinion is one way and it may the other. He may be happy at the rate we are progressing. If he is interested in my opinion after 35yrs as a fan i would tell him i approve

We did win a league title not that long ago.

For any rational minded person in here, the trophies won is more than justified, we won the league last year btw. No sane person expect to win the league every year.

FA cup and runners up will be good enough for the majority of cityfans and our owners. that im sure about.

For a club that was skint, had shit players and had won fuck all for many years I'd say that is more than adequate. You need to be a hell of a lot more realistic and get it through your head that spending money does not mean we automatically should be winning the Champions League. 2 teams in the semi were in our group ffs. I think if the draw favours us a bit more next season and Mancini gets the players he wants in the summer we will have a very good CL campaign next year.

The above post sums up the thread really:

1.) Expectations exceeded by our wildest dreams pre-2008, still good enough with a benefactor, and FFP hanging over our heads.
2.) Everyone thinks the word success in the Champions League means "win the damn thing", which literally no one has ever said is an expectation.
3.) Not realistic to think that the investment should get us past the CL group stages, or at least reach the quarter finals of the Europa League.
4.) Quote the continuing success of the three teams that beat us in the group stages this year, while later claiming the managers of those three teams wouldn't be an improvement on Mancini.
5.) Mancini didn't get all of his top picks during the 54-Million-pound transfer window spending, and selling Adam Johnson and Nigel De Jong cost us dearly in the CL.
6.) Getting an easier set of opponents will see us through the group stage, since the best team in England needs an easy draw to go through. (which is fucking insulting, quite frankly).

I give up, there was a time a few years back where sucess could be finishing mid table avoiding any relagation and not getting lumbered with Europa league. There has been investment just like any club but as many people have said money does not always bring sucess. It is what you do with that investment that counts and that is down to the manager and coaching staff. To turn a club from mid table obscurity into locking horns with the elite of Europe cannot be done overnight. Taggart took 7 years to win, the CL we should look at the same timespan 7 -10 years, long term. In respect of domestic competitions we have been sucessfull without being dominant, this has led to an exiting finish to the league last year and two fabulous cup runs. I believe the transformation at City is down to the hard work of the manager, coaches and our owner being patient. He is in it for the long haul (although everyone else away from City hopes he isn't). I also think he understands football more than people think and with signing the two execs from Barcelona I am sure no panic buttons being pressed. If you want sucess just look at the shite from Stretford they have done it by NOT changing their manager I would hope that we would do the same.

So if he is replaced in the summer, you feel that Mansour, Khaldoon, Soriano, and Txiki will all be irrationally minded people? That's quite a statement.

Oh I must have missed that. You know what I mean, but clever girl nonetheless.

If you think the cup competitions warrant the investment, then Mancini has over-achieved. If you don't think so, then the only real investment-justifying success has been the league title and making it into the CL a year prior to that. In that case, do you think the league title and CL spots have justified the investment?

How many times..........

It isnt the fact we won't win the league its the manner in which we have surrendered it.

I've given my answer to your question. It's fairly clear.

As for the clever girl comment, good to see you upholding your own ever so high standards of internet debate.

Ya don't say? Here I was thinking I had him dialed in perfectly. But you're right, no one knows, which is why we're even having this conversation... because we don't know whether or not Mancini will be here come August.

Honestly, after all this arguing, if Mansour is happy with the progress, then that is great. Not only for the fact that we'd keep Mancini, but the fact that he doesn't much bother with the rate of success.

My only tidbit for you to consider is that they sacked Hughes for stagnating performances and no progress after massive expenditures. We were at a different level at the time, but that was the measure by which they justified sacking him. Yes, he wasn't their man, among other negatives, but that measure is out there nonetheless.
