Mancini (cont)

Klopp has proved that he can work and motivate a bunch of real talented young players in a system he has modeled (and do not believe that he has not sorted out a lot of players - he has) - it is something different to work with the type of players Manchester City has.

He did the same in Mainz. He never worked with "stars". Never in a ball possession system - the tactics in Mainz were similar.

The most important thing Heynckes at Bayern Munich makes really fantastic right now is to keep everybody in good mood and to get them working as a team but still caressing the players who need it. E.g. telling a Ribery how great he is but telling him how important it is to work in the defense - and praising him for that very loud. Sure - the quality has improved since last year - especially the bench - and the lack of success modeled everybody together and created a special mentality. But somebody has to be the moderator.

And maybe that is the problem your team has had in the recent two years when meeting other teams in Europe. The sum of individuals only beats a team when they are an amount better - they are in the Premier League. Dortmund - in quality maybe slightly worse but a great teamwork. Real - slightly better in quality with a better team work. Ajax - worse by a margin but a great teamwork. Napoli - quality like Ajax but a strange tactics but a lot a great teamwork. Bayern in 2011/12 - same or slightly better quality but decent teamwork.

Great post, Maldeika.

city have had a great week, beaten our 2 rivals and into a cup final ,that wont do so lets chuck in another name to undermine mancini..pathetic

I'm with you Karen well said.

Me too, I'm getting really tired of those people who want to get rid of a manager who has brought us success at the top level of English football over the past couple of seasons. The last manager to do that was way back in the 1960s.

Had Mancini been appointed manager of Aston Villa instead of us,do you believe he would have been equally as successful?

No, but neither would Mourinho or Ferguson or Klopp or Guardiola or anyone else you care to name.

Of course they wouldn't,hence why such a pedestal placing statement was a nonsense.

Many factors have enabled our success and progress,Mancini being only one of them.

The question that now troubles myself and others is - with someone else in charge, could, and should,we have done even better?

Ah I misunderstood your point.

To answer the question, yes I think we should have done better, but I think it was a systemic failure over the past season. The entire organization let themselves and the fans down. If that's addressed, then I'm hopeful for a better season to come. What I hope for is along these lines...

1. Don't take a hard line with a potential transfer to prove a point. If it's down to valuation, that's fine. Proving a point is stupid.

2. Get the damn transfers in quickly and get it over with so they have at least a month with the squad in preseason.

3. Player complacency needs addressing. I'm seeing evidence of that lately. Good. There was far too much resting on laurels this season.

4. Mancini needs to balance stubbornness and flexibility. Both are necessary, but you need to know when to deploy which attribute. His bending on Balotelli is a sign that he might be learning that.

And of course there are other things, but I think those are the major ones.

WTF? We wouldnt have had honor to watch Yaya, Silva,Aguero if it werent for Mancini.

The present city team is made of Mancini signings he AND ONLY he we have to thank for all the success we got.

Money dont buy you titles or success, look at QPR look at Liverpool.

Mancini has given us a world class team who play world class football to question him is mental.

Why wouldn't another manager have signed those players?

We were afforded the luxury of shopping in Harrods and not limited to Sainsburys........

World class football gets you past the group stages of the Champs league.

I give up.
we dont know maybe another manager would. what we do know. Mancini did.
my point stands. Mancini has given us a winning team. we should be thankful

Could we have done better? Whats done is done and Mancini, IMO, has been successful.

Europe is a completely different animal. We are a new team and getting used to competing on all fronts for trophies takes time. Only Tevez and Yaya have the experience of playing in teams used to this pressure. Chelsea have suffered heavily with Romans longing for the CL and I think our owners have a bit more sense than him.

I like Klopp but talk of him being a better manager than Mancini is very premature. Dortmund won their league twice (during a transition period for Bayern), they finished bottom of their (considerably easier) group first time around and they have focused on Europe this year to the detriment of their league form.
