City finish 4th
Then i still want Mancini OUT
If City want to make this real statement of intent. This must happen.
To me if we won the FA Cup and finished 4th, it wouldn't show a real statement of intent, it would be ridiculous. Basically we'd be sacking a manager who in his first full season in charge would have us finishing in the top four and will have won us a trophy for the first time in ages
If we finished 4th it'll mean that we've progressed under Mancini, progress is what we all want, some people expect more, some people are happy enough knowing 4th was the minimum expectation. If we finish 5th it's a different matter of course. Basically as it stands at this moment in time in comparison to last year, we are in a better position in terms of league position and are also closer to the top 3 than we were round about this time last season
A one place improvement might not seem a lot to some, maybe it isn't but to go from 5th to 4th is one thing but to jump from 5th and overhaul the likes of United, Chelsea and Arsenal is extremely tough. These are teams who at the start of the season has a squad of players who had been there for a number of seasons, they have a group of players who've been together for at least a couple of seasons, they'll have had time together to develop understanding of how each other players. To some this might not matter, to some it might be a little point but to me it's quite a big factor, basically what we've done is spend a lot of money on players over a short period of time, apart from De Jong, Kompany, Hart (Who was loaned out for one season), Richards and Zab we hardly have anyone in and around the first team who have been here for more than two seasons.
Do you think it's easy to sign a number of players, most of them who had not even had a pre season to get to know each other and expect them to understand each others game straight away? Not to mention that they have to understand the set up and thinking of the manager, how he wants them to play and where he wants them to play, things take time. I honestly believe next year with a couple of additions, we'll see a much better team, they've shown signs of how they can play as a team on numerous occasions this season and i believe with a full pre season behind them we'd progress against next season
We'd had a bit of a wobble of late both in terms of results and performances but so have United, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal so it's not just us, it's about getting through this wobble and coming out at the end of if in 4th place, thats what matters, if we do that then for me Mancini more than deserves to keep his job
Absolute common sense post, agree with you completely.
Its even got to the stage where people are saying Mancini out and they actually have NO IDEA whether there is anyone of good enough calibre to replace him. Could you imagine if clowns like that were running the club, heaven forbid.
At the time of the Hughes 'out' debate (its a running theme) one of the key arguments against him were that he's not won anything.
With Mancini I've read numerous times that he doesn't understand the English game.
OK, so we can assume that the right calibre manager must:
- Have proven credentials & have won something
- Managed in the Premiership
- Clearly he must be available
Mmm so I had a think about that:
Mourinho - No not available and would prob join rags or L'pool over us
Benitez - Yes - Hmm look how he left Liverpool is that 'really' demonstrating better credentials than Mancini, he failed at Inter where Mancini succeeded
Hiddink - For my money too old he won't build a dynasty to last decades
That's about your lot. Not much to go on. Any other names in the hat ? I can't think of any more.
I can clearly see Mancini putting in all the necessary foundations to make us successful he knows what makes a winning team, I like Platt (not before he joined but I'm warming to him) and he also has Brian Kidd who worked under Fergie and speaks exceptionally highly of Roberto. Think I'll trust that fellow over Didsbury Dave or Blueinsa with respect.
