Blue Mooner - What part of being the 4th best team in the country do you not get

Open your eyes. There is nothing wrong with being the 4th best team in the country. There would be nothing wrong with finishing 4th. The fact is we are on the slide and do not look like finishing 4th. Our current form says we are not the 4th best team in the country. Current form says we are the 11th best team in the country. Continuation of that form says we will not be 4th at the end.

Jesus our away form is frightening at the moment.

Of course we are on the slide if you look back over the last 6 games but then again so are United. Thats the premiership for you, if you'd have looked at this a month ago Chelsea would have been in roughly the same position as us in the form table, theres no reason why with the fixtures we've got coming up we can't turn it around similar to how Chelsea have done

Fact of the matter if we are 4th despite having a bit of a wobble, whats important is we snap out of that starting with the Sunderland game and go on from there, we are in pole position to finish 4th as it stands

I accept what you say but we were top 9 games ago. We are 4th. There is a decline there that needs stopping and to be honest it doesn't look like stopping any time soon.

We were top but teams behind us had games in hand so while it was great it was kind of a false position as when we went top United had 3 games in hand. Don't get me wrong our form of late hasn't been good enough but as i said neither is United's at present, neither is Spurs and Chelsea's was probably just as bad a month ago but they've managed to turn it around and theres no reason why we can't turn it around starting with Sunderland next week

-- Wed Mar 23, 2011 12:52 pm --

Are you after a genuine answer or saying that the games were tough ones?

We did not try to win any of the games at Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea. We led twice at Birmingham and couldn't see the game through. We lost to a poor Villa team. The home games have hardly been convincing, West Brom aside. I believe we are dropping because we have been sussed, there does not appear to be an answer from Mancini and we do not take the risks required to win tight games.

But its not sh*t is it !? Sh*t is losing to Chelsea six nil or losing to Burnley at home, watching Ged Brannan, Michael Frontzeck, super Bob Taylor, Kare Ingebritzen, Alfons Gronendijk, David Brightwell, Rae Ingram I could go on and on and on

What part of being the 4th best team in the country do you not get ? Taking the season as a whole (cos lets be honest Chelsea lost to Sunderland 3-0 & every team has looked dodgy at times) what is sh*t about being 4th ?

What's sh*t about having the 4th best goal difference in the league, suggesting we score more goals and concede less than 16 other teams in the premiership, how does that constitute boring ? Does that mean the majority of the premier league is boring ? Have you fallen out of love with football, maybe that's the problem.

If we play sh*t then what do Wigan play every week, worse than sh*t, in fact what is worse than sh*t ?

No issues with the fact you think we should be doing better, but to claim the football you are seeing is boring and sh*t based on what we've witnessed in previous decades is quite frankly making you look foolish.

You think he looks foolish. I think you look foolish.

It's two different opinions, that's all. Let's keep it to that.

Fair enough, I agree its opinions but I think yours are extreme and simply way out of kilter with the facts whereas I think mine- whether you agree or not - are reasonable and not exagerrating the true situation we find ourselves. (ie I'm not blowing smoke up Mancin's ar*e but neither am I making out its a whole lot worse than it really is).

In summary;
-Content with where we are; 4th and a semi final to look forward to
-Definitely moving in the right direction, with some room for improvement
-Need to add to and then trim the sqaud in the summer

Fully prepared to give Mancini time to do this evolution, rather than wiping the slate clean and starting again for the third time.

Rational, reasoned view vs We are sh*t, we are boring, Mancinis clueless blah blah

To call for the managers head at such a crucial stage in the season with some of the achievements we wanted at the outset still in our grasp is deeply irresponsible and flies in the face of the term 'support'. I'd expect it of the media but not our own fans.

-- Wed Mar 23, 2011 2:02 pm --

What about West Ham, Fulham and Newcastle away, the first two are the best away performances I've seen in a long time. We've won 6 away this season which is one of teh better returns we'vehad.

Don't forget the rags have only won 2 away all season. This is a very competitive premier league this year.

I've read your posts and I think your opinions are grossly out of kilter with the facts, personally. I also expect my opinion to be borne out with action in the summer ;-)

True - but the point I am making is we are now going backwards. All of those results were superb. Have you seen us try to play the same way since New Year. I haven't. If we were continuing in the same vein I would be delighted. Those results were last year. They do not reflect our current form or our current outlook.

Jesus our away form is frightening at the moment.

But that's the usual negativity of City fans, who's to say that will continue ?
There are mitigating circumstances, we've played the rags, arsenal and chelsea away in that recent run. I would suggest that Chelsea were probably 18th in the form guide at one point and now their form has returned they could still have a say in the title.

In that period we have had crucial injuries to De Jong and Johnson (they are starting to come back) compounded by the fact we have had to play a shed load of games every three days and inevitably suffered from tiredness. I think the fact we have come through that period still in 4th stands us in good stead. I had predicted Spurs would be above us at this point.

With a two week break to Sunderland and less games I'm certain you will see our form pick back up.

No one knows what he was targetted with expect Mancini and the board.
But we can make an intelligent guess. We know that Hughes' target was changed from "Top 6" to "70 points" due to the higher level of investment than anticipated in the team. Therefore It's probably safe to assume that Mancini has at least the same target but possibly something a little bit more strectching.

It may be a few points more, a caveat that we have to be within 3 points of third or less than 8 or 9 points off the top or even involve cup targets (e.g. 2 semi's).
