Pellegrini is a decent manager and was the right man post-Mancini to sort our dressing room out, but he isn't a great manager and there will be better managers available in the summer.
Simeone could be a flop with these players and I'm a big Simeone fan. He is a defensive/counter attacking/set-piece coach like Mourinho so he'd need players willing to die for the cause and graft graft graft... some of these simply aren't. Just look at Kolarov strolling back.
Whoever took over if Pellegrini got sacked would probably win the league, then the following season see an inconsistent City finish 2nd or 3rd. And the cycle would continue. Eventually, people may stop blaming the manager and looking at the mentality of the players and also the lack of "WOW!" signings to follow up on our league wins.
IMO there's only one manager out there who may be able to motivate the players to a consistent higher level while also playing the City Football Group brand of football... and his name is Pep Guardiola, who is unavailable. Hence, just keep Pellegrini and start reshaping the team with FRESH faces offering (very importantly) FRESH ideas, something we haven't really seen after either title win.
Hand Pellegrini a trio of top class players like Chelsea and Real have and we'd probably avoid some of these recurring problems.
Whilst I agree the players have to take some blame, I have seen enough of Pellegrini to know he isn't a great manager, his tactics at times have been atrocious and on a lot of occassions he never seems to learn from his mistakes.
Some of the football this season has been worse than the side Mancini had in his last season.
The squad needs redeveloping anyway and Simeone would be the man to come in and change what needs to be changed and install a die hard no nonsense winning mentality at the club.
Either him or Klopp.
We ain't getting Pep soon, he will be at Bayen for a few more seasons yet.
It's about time we appointed an out an out world class manager.
