Marc Cucurella

I do get that and agree it sounds like a dispute over value not wanting to hold onto him at all costs as some are making out.

Not sure you can say you cant replace him for £10m when he only cost £16m originally. Not saying theyre everywhere but when a whole scouting department is focused on growth potential and players looking for opportunities in the prem to prove themselves, there will be plenty of replacement options. Some will be better, most not, but all able to replace 90% of what cucurella did. Sometimes wish we did more of this but seems our board have decided its ready and proven players only with academy providing the growth upside.

If this doesnt go through, we’ll never truly know what was offered and what was rejected and we’ll never know the real impacts. But my opinion is that it will create some resentment in the player (which he may get over quickly). And will also make the next cucurella think twice signing for brighton if performing well is not rewarded with a move up the chain.
Problem is it's that 10% that makes the real difference between an adequate LB and a very good one which he's developed into..................my guess is we'll buy one anyway and Marc will leave next summer (unless you cough up the full amount - whatever that is - now).

Personally I'm not overly fussed about the resentment angle though, the club have always handled this stuff pretty well (Dunk, Stephens for example) and will have had clear discussions with him, and there are very recent examples of players being allowed to leave for bigger clubs (White and Bissouma).

We won't truly know was was offered even if it does go though given our usual MO on transfer dealings.

Why do people speculate on stuff that they have no knowledge of.
What solid information do you base this on ?
I will save you replying, you have none, just like everyone else.
Why are you in transfer forum then ? All we do here is speculate. Jesus!

Effectively in a CL match against teams with quality up top?...you might want to re-think that...its basically the main reason we keep coming up a bit short...and before anyone starts blabbering about "you think you know better than Pep, etc. etc." I'm going to say with 100% conviction in order to win the CL we need TWO FBs who can hold it down against top quality playmakers...Walker and someone legit on the left...the knockout stages of the CL are not the Prem...the teams we face are not anywhere near us in terms of overall quality, but most possess big time quality up top like Benzema and Vinicius, Jr., Kane and Son, a young Mbappe and Falcao and also playmakers like Modric, Erickson, and Bernardo...these kind of teams don't need to out play you...they can hurt you in the blink of an eye...it's extremely difficult to navigate this type of format all the way thru to the end when playing with all out attacking fullbacks, like Cancelo, or makeshift ones like Zinchenko...our plan works great in the Prem against basically everyone but Liverpool and Tottenham who have one thing in common, legit talent up top...look at the amount of goals we surrendered in aggregate against Real, Liverpool, Monaco, and Tottenham in recent CLs under Pep...Even Lyon scored 3 in a one off...this NEVER happens over two games in the Prem where Cancelo can run around freely without worrying about what's happening in behind him for example...FBs becoming extra mid fielders, playing in inverted roles and what not, I get it... but those halting results in the CL are not a coincidence...coincidences don't just keep happening every year...we don't need to make ourselves vulnerable in the back, specifically in the wide spaces, in order to beat any of those teams...we can either blow their doors off or win in a blink first game with 5 or 6 in attack with all the quality we have...I know many on here don't hold the CL in high regard but the reality of the matter is you have to win in Europe to attain that sort of historic team level...I want us to win it, the sooner the better...and having legit cover against the Reals, Bayerns, Barcas across the entirety of the back four is a good place to start...one man's opinion...

We had Haaland last season we would of beat Madrid because we made enough chances to win 3 matches! Left back why’s in the domestic games hasn’t stopped us! So we got Haaland and Alvarez who looks quality to so if we don’t get a left back I won’t be arsed one bit!

Your right you ain’t pep..

I’ll be very arsed!

Cancelo gets injured and everyone will be panicking mainly me though.

No one had any reservations about playing Foden, if anything people wanted him in the team to early. He’s world class.

If Pep and his coaching staff genuinely believe in JWE I’m all for it.
