Is this really a fact?
The Sun, Mirror, Daily Mail etc seem to think so, given how they monitor Jack's every move. The Sun even post photos from time to time of him leaving his apartment building, they are that desperate for Grealish content (which is presumably because it translates to clicks).

And are there any other players who have an army of kids with their haircuts, hairbands, shirts etc? Or who are cheered like a rockstar whenever they set foot on the pitch at Wembley for England? Some people may not like or rate him, but Grealish is box office. All of this quite aside from the fact he's an extremely talented footballer who'll undoubtedly do a great job for City going forward.

(And yes, I realise this is the Cucurella thread, but at least one prolific poster keeps dragging almost all transfer discussions back to how he thinks City overpaid for Grealish, which inevitably leads to some thread derailment as others push back on that.)

Probably true. I was speaking to a big Notts Forest fan the other day. His daughter goes to the games with him and he said she isn’t bothered about seeing United, Liverpool etc she just wants to see City as she loves Grealish.

My sister who have nothing to do for football for years, until recently she saw Jack Grealish playing for City and she suddenly become a fan of him is just proves that City know what their doing in here.

Grealish values is beyond his footballing skill and some dinosaurus in here is too thick to see it.

It would be madness to start the season with only two recognised senior full backs, which is why I’m sure we’ll sign someone in the next week or so.

In a normal season id agree, but it'd basically mean 3 months (Aug, Sept, Oct) and then everything stops for pretty much all of November and December for the World Cup. Then the transfer window is back open.

Pretty sure we can manage in the early stages of the Champions League as we are, and in 90% of league matches too.

Id much prefer we got something sorted now, but its possible we stand our ground and sort something for January. As long as we have everything in place for the 2nd part of the season we'll be fine.

I can’t believe the panic on here.If the club don’t get a left back it’s criminal it’s negligent etc etc
We had 2 Mendy and Zinchenko both gone for different reasons
Watch the City documentaries, we are one of the best run clubs in all aspects in the world
The transfer window is far from over we are in negotiations for a left back
It is therefore obvious the club realise th need for one
They will sign one most likely Cucurella before the window shuts

Why are people harping on about the Grealish fee when we are league champions, have a significantly positive net spend, the most valuable squad in world football, the fastest growing fanbase in the world game, and have just signed the most wanted striker in European football, the South American footballer of the year and the England player of the year? I swear that there is some kind of illness that pervades some City fans that they HAVE TO have something to moan about.

99% of the actual LBs are not good enough to play in a Pep system. Pep prefers midfielders at LB to most of the 'actual' LBs for a reason. And we broke numerous records with Delph and Zinch for a reason. We don't defend in traditional ways. Absolutely central to our way of defending is the ability to keep possession in dangerous zones under pressure. The much underrated on here Cancelo completed more passes than any player in the PL last season, it was probably a first for a FB in the top 5 leagues in history (to complete most passes).

Cucu is good for us, but maybe not at Brighton's asking price. Because the plan is not to bench Cancelo or Walker. We'll sign a new FB, maybe Sosa.

Absolutley. If we hadnt sold Zin and he'd played his whole career at City as a left back, you'd still get people saying "he's not a leftback".

He was - for us.

Well, if 1,176,471 City fan's previously uninterested female relatives buy a Grealish shirt then we'll be about 10-15% of the way there.
Oh please don’t

You have probably just started yet another round of “it goes to the club….no it goes to Puma…….when blah blah signed for the scum they blah blah”

Can’t be arsed with it today

Really you think Grealish is worth 100m in marketing. Wow!

I very much doubt he is anywhere near our top shirt seller which would be Haaland by a mile then KDB I suspect the Bernie Mahrez etc.

I doubt many people are going to buy his shirts outside of the UK? and in the UK the only people that are going to buy his shirts are City fans.

My guess is his shirt sales and marketing value to City is somewhere south of 5-10m a year?

I imagine City control the marketing. I was in Disney Springs a couple of days ago and Foden was our poster boy in the “Pele soccer” shop there. Regardless of what any of us think that number might be, Grealish’s marketing value (both at time of transfer and once he was in a City shirt), would have factored in to what we were prepared to pay as well as what Villa wanted along with how much more it raises the clubs profile - both simply by signing him as well as our on field successes he may contribute to. I’m sure there are formulas to calculate all of this that clubs use.

When it comes to this lad from Brighton he’s only real value is his footballing ability right now. That’s why no one can say well player x went for £y and so player y is worth the same based on footballing ability alone.
