He would do that if he submitted a transfer request, not because he wants to leave Brighton, but because he wants to join City. He would do that if he wants to play in the best team in the country, for possibly the best manager there's ever been (who happens to be the same nationality as him and used to manage the club he started off at).

If he holds out for us, he'll end up with us. If he can't be bothered with the hassle, he'll just go and join Chelsea.

The only key advantage we currently have over Chelsea is Pep. Who knows how long he will be here though.

Everything else we can offer so can Chelsea.

Every now and then we have an arrogance that the selling club will bow to us etc and it fails? Cucurella will have no problems going to the chavs as he will still get a nice big pay rise, champions league football etc.

It’s not about that it’s about the budget and what we feel is the right fee for that player! City think 40m is there value

Pep behind the scenes must get pissed off at times and with the sales we have done this year he should have been handed his 3 main targets and having secured 2 quickly and at amazing prices Cucurella should be done as well! Not like we havent paid £50m for a full back before??

I think he’ll be saying we fine I have cancello Ake JWB and I can convert Ederson into a left back if desperate ;)

How could they have handled it better in your opinion?

Buy the player. It’s been reported for months that Cucurella is City and Pep’s priority leftback target. Not coughing up the money needed when we’ve sold so many players with big profits this summer is completely beyond me. There aren’t many good options on the market. We’re likely looking at another Angelino situation. Instead of buying the top target, we settle on somebody less skillful, and because of what, pride? Because we got the money. This is on Txiki.

Can we just ban those from the thread who say “close the thread” it will mean to them it feels closed because they can’t get in the thread![emoji851]

Always think transfer subforum should be gated and need atleast one year probation before being granted to access this subforum.

Will improve the forum tremendously and remove the trolls.

That simple eh?

We're the richest club in the world, in profit on the transfer window so far and were arguing over £10 million or so for a player who appears to solve a big problem area for us and apparently fits us like a glove?

Something doesn't quite add up.
Like backing a horse in a race, a range of prices, you fancy a few of them and have settled on one but his price drops to the point he isn’t value. Back another. Okay, maybe best to pass in that situation but we don’t have that option… I hope.

It’ll be interesting to see if we use Chelsea getting close on a fee to our advantage in knowing we can get it matched and do the deal quickly, IF we do choose. Only other day we were saying no one knew what fee Bloom wanted, however if suddenly we get to hear maybe via Cucu’s agent what the agreed fee is then we know what has to be done if we want to swoop in.

Not by any means convinced we will but there’s always the possibility.

How football works......
Brighton value Cucurella at £50M.
We don't think he is worth £50M and will not pay it.
Another team thinks he is worth £50M and are willing to pay it.
Therefore, Brighton are right. Cucurella's value is £50M!
It's not rocket science. It's a market - demand/supply/price

Taking some moral high ground doesn't gain us anything - doesn't get us the target player that Pep wants.
After letting Sterling go to Chelsea, this feels like gifting them another top class player.
Our club is trying to raise its profile positively on the world stage. This sort of approach, like last summer with Kane, risks making us look like amateurs.

Chelsea are a bit more of an unknown. The previous owner used to change manager every season almost, so there was always a lot of change and upheavel. Your face fits one season, the next it doesn't. New owner may be different, but might not be. They've made a lot of changes this season and there's no guarantee they'll get top 4.

Theres no guarantee we'll get top 4, but when you look at how we do things, the club is a lot more stable. If he joins us, we're more likely to give him time to settle and keep faith in him. Also going off recent history, he's more likely to win things.

That said, they aren't a bad team. A decent fallback option for him I suppose.

Let's say we were interested in 3 LBs, all of which we value at approximately 35M (for example).

We have a slight preference for player A as he has played in the PL and has nice hair. So we try and buy him for an amount that we think represents fair value for the player. We might even be willing to pay a couple of million more because of his silky curls. However, the selling club wants a great deal more than that and won't budge.

We didn't want player A that much more than players B and C and certainly don't think he's worth what the selling club want, so we now shift our focus onto bringing in one of the other 2.
