Mancini was handing out first senior appearances to our youth players long before Txiki. I think he's the manager who's given the most first appearances to youth players.

I'm not too sure about that.

I think its true. Mancini not giving youth a chance is a bluemoon myth

I would like to see him on the bench against Arsenal.
I think all 3 will have to be, unless kolarov or dare i say it maicon are back by saturday

I get the feeling you don't rate Maicon?

Maicon gives us that diversity to change from a 4-2-3-1 to a 3-5-2 if need be and with our current injuries/suspensions and Toure brothers at the ACoN some diversity is what we need!

Maicon can play anywhere on the right and could probably do a decent job attacking right with Pablo sat behind him with Dzeko most likely playing due to Aguero being injured he'll love the crosses that Maicon can produce!
I was referring to his injury record with my comment. I do rate him attacking wise, but he should be a squad player at most. Coming off the bench or playing at home to teams who park the bus. But not getting a run of games or playing against tough opposition - he cant really defend can he?

And he's missed far too many games through injury already

I would have liked to see Dennis Suarez and although he wasn't match fit John Guidetti.
But it is really good that Bobby is playing our young players Rekik, Rasak and now Lopes.
Very promising for the future.

Yes, but they don't progress do they ? Have any staked a claim on a first-team berth or even made it to the bench on a regular basis. I know the stakes are high but we need the academy to start proving its worth.

it will take at least 2 more years for the right players to come through. the trouble is for a few years we`d taken our eye off the ball where signing young talent is concerned

I think you're wrong there, Abdul Razak has staked his place on the bench numerous occasions in the last 2 seasons. Which ultimatley meant he got his call up to the Ivory Coast national team!

Mancini is not afraid to play kids if they are of the right quality. Balotelli, Nastasic etc. Even Hart is a good example.

Boyata, McGivern, Wabara, Chantler (for about 2 minutes on his birthday), Mee, Vidal, and Weiss. I guess an argument can be made though that very few who weren't bought have been given a sustained chance yet except maybe Boyata. Many have been one-off appearances but to be honest many of them have been nowhere near good enough for City so were lucky to get any appearance at all. Mancini is a step up from Mourinho for trying youth players but does seem a little wary of giving any a true promotion, ie. regular football. Guidetti could be the first if one of the four striker spots is freed for him.

Quite a few of the younger players that have been given a taste of first team action have then been sent out of loan. Unfortunately most of them do not seem to have made a huge impact whilst on loan. The exception seems to have been Guidetti who unfortunately then picked up that illness.

He also gave Balotelli his debut as a 17 year old and has played him quite regular ever since

by play I meant for real, not in games that don't really matter. The truth is our academy just hasn't been supplying him with players of the calibre he requires. but when a player is of the required standard, their age doesn't matter to Mancini - he has shown that plenty of times.

All the players i mentioned have played in competitive matches Premier League, Fa Cup and League Cup under Roberto

Speaking of young players, McGivern is doing cracking at hibs. Really think he can do well at city if I'm honest

This might not be a guarantee but it will be interesting to see in pre season Vlad Marin, a player we fought to sign from Lazio. Don't get me wrong McGivern will have a decent career, but he will not make it at City.

As for Lopes, there is something about him that he could make it at City.
