If he is good enough, he will play for City. If he is close to good enough but not quite good enough for City, he is good enough to play for most teams in the Premier League, in Italy, Spain or Germany on loan. He would be able to get in our Champions League squad if he decided to fight for his place instead. If none of those options are good enough, he can fuck off.

What a short sighted attitude to have.

So a player must worship at the altar of City rather than have an eye on what his best for his long term football development or fuck off? If Lopes is good enough to get a place in our squad, and he is considering Scott Sinclair is in our squad as is Dedryck Boyata, and he doesn't get a place in our squad but yet again gets turfed out to France so we can dither for another year then he absolutely SHOULD leave the club.

There's no proof at all that out youth development goals are anything but hot air and throwing money around at the moment, and the idea that he should just wait around working his bollocks off so we can splash some money on Reus and he can be another peg down is daft. Why should he? It's not like he grew up with pictures of Peter Reid and Steve Daley on his wall, he's a young kid with a burning desire and professional ambition who understands that he needs to play football.

I won't accept any idea that United can give James Wilson games when they have Di Maria, Mata, Rooney, Falcao and Van Persie but we can't find a squad place for Lopes because he might not be good enough.

I would much rather our Youth team players were playing regularly out on loan than making the odd substitute appearance once every 2 months. I don't see how that is development.

James Wilson will be out on loan next season surely?

I'm completely rethinking my earlier comments after yesterday. I now don't trust Pellegrini on this until he proves otherwise.

I was convinced that, as with Lopes, we would see at least one kid in the FA Cup team.

FWIW, a french-lang LOSC forum claims Lopes re-injured his leg and will miss 2 more weeks. Def not in tomorrow's squad. Keep twiddlin' them thumbs looks like ...

Lopes is back in full training, Girard said he won't be fit enough to make the bench for LOSC's cup-tie with Nantes tomorrow, but he should be fit enough to make the bench against Lorient at the weekend, which is great news.

The only negative however, is that Lille have just signed Sofiane Boufal, a 21 year old attacking midfielder (from Ligue 2) to give them some much needed creativity. This signing could potentially halt Lopes's progress as they play in very similar positions. But, some of the Lille fans I've spoken to are of the opinion that with a full-fit squad, both should start, with Boufal maybe playing slightly deeper. But Rony is fit again now, so start to put a string of games together.

Haven't Lille scored the least amount of goals in Ligue 1?

I think both the new signing and Lopes will get their fair share of game time from now until the end of the season.

At least Marcos is back in training.

yeah they've really struggled for goals. Their form has picked-up in recent weeks though. Just hope he can keep fit after a good recuperation period over the winter break.

From what I've seen of Lille they have very limited attacking options, one of which is origi who is supposedly having his loan cut short so they will need another left sided player which Rony can play. The fans seem to love him and I would put my neck on the line and say he would do it better than origi.

sure is freakin' creepy how my utterly harmless post with possible Lopes info was unceremoniously deleted by the mods - boy, sure feel highly incentivized to participate fully in the forum now - sheesh

pm?

Back in the squad for todays game. Hopefully he'll get on for the last 20 minutes of so, instead of being thrown in to start the game in central midfield like last time. Hopefully he can have an injury free second half of the season so he can really show what he's about, god knows Lile could use him.

I was just about to ask if anyone knew if he was on the bench, I see the new signing boufal starts. I'm also wondering with his injuries and the new signings could he return and replace Sinclair of he leaves.

Why would we need to replace Sinclair? He has no purpose, we could replace him with a lifesize cardboard cut out of Scott Sinclar instead and it would be just as useful to the team. If we were to sell Milner this window then we could consider bringing him back to replace him, but I don't see either of those things happening.

Let him see out his season in France, he is playing - when fit - on a regular basis and in a top flight league.

He can fight for a place in the summer in pre-season.

Maybe it would be better if he didn't get on this game. Lorient play with an artificial surface and Lille have already lost two players to injury on it in the first half, with another looking like he's coming off now after only a few minutes in the second half. Probably not the game to come back from a long injury

EDIT Oh well, given the last 20 minutes. Survival would be about all I'm hoping for tbh

Only brief then but i swear he looked immediately more vibrant than anyone else in the pitch in twenty minutes when he got the ball.

Love the fact that he's powerful and stocky, Aguero-like. Fast too.
