Mark Hughes' exit from Manchester City

I think securing Jose would mean that we will definitely NOT be getting John Terry. Their professional relationship was non-existent by the time Jose left Chelsea.

Dubai Blue, love the analogy. Spot on, and pretty much what I think as well. Hughes is not a "dreadful manager" Barca, but he's certainly not world class.

Ok, he's not dreadful. His standard/level though, is Blackburn Rovers.IMHO, he's bought Lescott and Toure for nearly, what, £50m?And they're more scared of crosses than Dracula. His scope for buying players is "Oh, he's doing well at *insert Premier League Club here*, lets get him in" without any real thought as to whether they're good enough.Wenger knew Toure was past it after he got Malaria, and Lescott has had a career which has spanned one half decent season and there we we were with cash to throw at them.If Hughes had bothered to look abroad, we'd be in the top 2 now, no danger.

The goals we concede are normally comical (not for us, obviously). The Derby, anyone? :(

I still think Lescott will turn into a consistent top class performer for us. We had to pay over the odds to get him but if his contract was coming to an end and Everton were forced to put him on the open market I would have been surpised if one or two, if not all, of the "Top 4" would have been in for him. He's a proven Premiership performer, not yet reached his peak who can play on the left side of a central pairing as well as at left back. That's a desirable prospect for most clubs. I've no worries with him.

Toure is another matter however. Although he hasn't made as many glaring errors as Lescott I haven't been impressed and I really don't understand how or why he was our fall-back signing after the Terry deal didn't come off. It's quite obvious Terry would have been our Captain and dominant, experienced centre half. So next on the list should have been someone cut from the same cloth. However, Toure is neither dominant or a true leader. Given that we had limitless funds and the whole footballing world to choose from, his signing is the one which baffles me more than Lescott's.

The derby goals we conceded were a disgrace, and to be honest, similar crosses were getting too far across the box as well on Saturday. It's a big worry.

Apologies, that was a bit off-topic.

MH has got to keep us top 6 by year end, but if he does not it does not mean he will go!
So he hasn't got to keep us top 6 then?

Is the second manager Phil Brown?

As I've said before, if Mourinho wants the job now, he can have it. It would be madness to pass up on the opportunity to bring in a proper world-class manager with proven pedigree. Sticking with Hughes under such circumstances would be akin to turning down the opportunity to sign Lionel Messi because Kelvin Etuhu has a bit of potential and is showing signs of steady progress.

A fantastic analogy!

speculation, rumour like this (or even if it does happen) is exactly what will hold us back from progressing as a team

patience is needed....but as usual a small section of our support wont have it and will helop the club destroy its chance of success from within

Im sure people would woman and moan even if we did break the top 4-6....

pmsl.

Martin O'Neill will be the correct answer though.

I remember Martin ONeil saying that we were still one of the top 6 clubs in England when we were mid table in division 2.

Like I have said for months!

MH has got to keep us top 6 by year end, but if he does not it does not mean he will go!

There are two people lined up to replace him, one (the big M) has been pushing ADUG for the job for the past 8-9 months - he believes that we offer him the best opportunity to return to the Premiership and prove what he can do, and he also wants to make an immediate impact!

The other is a current, long serving, very respected Premiership manager who has been been approached and who has indicated that he is willing to open discussions but only when we are serious!

Personally I do not want to see MH leave and believe he should be given the full season.

Thank you

I don't believe for one second that if Mourniho wanted the job our owners wouldn't have appointed him.

I believe we have been in discussions with him.

I also wouldn't be 100% surprised if he have a gentleman's agreement with him for the end of the season.

Believe it - our owners are not stupid, they are strategic business thinkers and they will not fall into the hands of people 'telling' them what is best for them....

It says here that Hughes facing a tow match touchline ban for his comments about Clattenburg on Saturday, its hardly going to help his cause in convincing the owners he is up to the job.

In his defence over Clattenburg though the ref did basically infer he didn't like Bellamy at half time and then decides to send him off in the 2nd half. Hmmm..

love him or loathe him, you have got to be on Hughes side where this tosser clattenburg is concerned surely.
Some of these people will grasp any straw if it suits their agenda mate.

If they kept Hughes on after last season when Mourinho wanted the job then they are stupid.

If you are a strategic business thinker then the first thing you do is realise you don't know best about everything. Then you appoint the best to advise you. And you listen to them.

They have no experience in Europena football. I believe noone in football would have advised them to turn Mourinho down. Except maybe MArk Bowen.

So I don't believe you for a second, to be honest.

If they were that strategic they'd realise very quickly that a choice between Mourinho and Hughes is an absolute no brainer. Even some of Hughes's most ardent backers on here (de niro for one) recognise that.

I have no idea but I wonder if our owners, who are serious and respected people who clearly like to stay under the radar, would be entirely happy with a man who is somewhat arrogant and indiscreet in his public utterances?
