If you lunge in constantly then you'll always end up with a lot of interceptions and tackles. What those stats don't say is how many failed tackles or interceptions he has, where he's sold himself completely and left us high and dry or given away fouls. No one is doubting his willingness to try and tackle, quite the opposite, he's far too keen and doesn't seem to consider whether it's wise or not.OB1 said:Demichelis makes more tackles, interceptions, clearances and passes than Lescott per league game, he also has a better pass completion.
The only one of those stats that Vinnie can better is tackles.
MDM has made some high profile mistakes but he actually does an awful lot of good work for the team.

That said it didn't help the pony-tailed donkey that , as per fookin usual, Mica was out of position during Wigan attacks
Sorry Micah, just forget footy and try rugby league: your body and brains are both built for it

ChicagoBlue said:MDM is not the problem, it is the WAY we defend and WHO gets back to assist when we are defending. It OVERexposes our back four. Look at the teams we play and see how many players they have defending when there is a break on. They have AT LEAST a few midfielders who bust their hump to get back.....we have Fernandinho!!
The other problem is that we play VERY NARROW when defending, so when our full backs do have to go out to meet any wide threats, if the midfielders are not filling in, we are left with decent sized holes between our defenders. That is where we are most often attacked. The number of goals scored BETWEEN our two central defenders is a nightmare.

And I have never seen a defender go down so easily as he does. When I see him collapse and hurt in a heep when he could so easily get back on his feet and make an effort it tells me something about his character
I remember his early promise, and we all know he has ability. If he applied himself to learn and be more dedicated he would be first choice every week in my opinion
Before the Demichelis fan club come on with their stats that supposedly show he is the best defender at the club who makes the least mistakes, it is worth pointing out that he has made absolutely loads of terrible school boy errors that have put us in terrible situations but luckily for him, not many of them have actually cost us goals. But it is just luck, he could have cost us about 20 goals through mistakes, the way he dives in.bluethrunthru said:Its pretty straightforward - look at his season - look at the mistakes he has made - look at the goals / points / games he has cost us and there is only one conclusion MDM - JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH

you are right about VK... nobody says anything because he is captain but if demi or lescott do anything, god forbid...tolmie's hairdoo said:East15East said:controversial view, I thought Richards was at fault for both goals.

Not controversial, he was badly at fault for both goals.
He's missing in the right-back slot for the first which results in the penalty.
For the second, laughable in the extreme. He's a by-stander until he can't hide anymore. At that point, he stands side on with both of his arms behind his back and makes himself as small a target as possible for the cross.
Thinking more about about handball than stopping the actual centre.

You could just as easily be describing Kompany, and we all know it.
