Mary D's The Townley or another?

That area is new housing all the maisonettes behind and to the side of the land are being demolished and new houses built and shops, the site of the old beswick precinct is in consultation for a new Rugby League stadium to be built.

The grass at the back of Ds is having a row of houses built on it as is the site of the old St Bridgits Church
Not heard about the rugby league stadium. Who would play there? Manchester Rangers were denied a permit to play in League One a few years ago, despite a growing fanbase and already having backers with enough capital to play in Super League. All because the RFL had a vanity project with their sights on North America, which has since failed. But in that time, Rangers’ backers all pulled out since there was no point the club sitting on a load of money playing amateur rugby.

Having a Manchester rugby league club would be good for the area. Especially with it being a Summer sport. Would get people down to the area (and pubs!) on at the weekend through the football off-season.

The RFL are moving to the Etihad Campus soon as well (currently in temporary offices in Trafford Wharf)

Not sure whereabouts at Etihad Campus they’re moving to though.

Was a letter came to the residents this week not big on details of what exactly they will do but the plan is for a RFL stadium to be built.

Swinton have no ground and playing at Sale FC near the Brooklands tram stop. However if I was them I would stay there as the clubhouse is very good and when you get 500 fans watching in league 1 building a new stadium is ridiculous.

There is still a person who holds a licence for a Rugby League team in the national structure after a current club went bankrupt and reformed without his involvement, and he is north west based. I will ask him next time I see him.

Edit seeing the article above, it just looks like what Lancashire FA do with their Country Ground in Leyland, a half decent ground but not used by a club, more for finals and under age levels.

We watched the FA cup final in 2010 in the pub across from Mary D's. Think it was called the Manchester.
Lines of coke off the bar and everyone blazing spliffs at the doorway. Loved it
Mmmm Chelsea beat Pompey 1-0, if it was like that for this game, what was it like the year after?

It is not too shocking, on none match days the pubs are empty bar a few residents, in east Manchester there must be over 200+ pubs that have dissapeared in the last 30 years.

Add to that the police discourage liscences for closed pubs to reopen near the ground as it is close to town and far easier to handle masses of fans in the city centre than the local residential area
Other then going to city matches I don’t really visit east Manchester, but I do find it a bit odd. A community of people with basically no pubs, restaurants or places to socialise. Yes pubs everywhere have shut down, but most areas still have pubs and in some cases new pubs opening up. East Manchester in particular seems to have been more effected then any other area

With the eithad and expansion incoming, surely new pubs will open in the area. If i lived there I’d hope so.

Places end up with little or no pubs like Bradford (the big one), the area is a classic deprivation donut and will only improve as the hole expands to subsume it, with everyone then complaining about gentrification.

Never went in the Manchester. It always looked like a place where they took your gun off you on the way out.
