Not heard about the rugby league stadium. Who would play there? Manchester Rangers were denied a permit to play in League One a few years ago, despite a growing fanbase and already having backers with enough capital to play in Super League. All because the RFL had a vanity project with their sights on North America, which has since failed. But in that time, Rangers’ backers all pulled out since there was no point the club sitting on a load of money playing amateur rugby. That area is new housing all the maisonettes behind and to the side of the land are being demolished and new houses built and shops, the site of the old beswick precinct is in consultation for a new Rugby League stadium to be built.
The grass at the back of Ds is having a row of houses built on it as is the site of the old St Bridgits Church
Having a Manchester rugby league club would be good for the area. Especially with it being a Summer sport. Would get people down to the area (and pubs!) on at the weekend through the football off-season.
The RFL are moving to the Etihad Campus soon as well (currently in temporary offices in Trafford Wharf)
