The key point is the time of formal arrest and caution. The radio 4 news at 1600 that he had been arrested and taken to the police station whereas the earlier ones never mentioned arrest.
I am glad the girl is assisting the police. I remember one of Morrisons cases which fell apart.
The UGov website talks of extentions being 36 or 96 hours but l think they have to be done incrementally in non terrorist cases. 48 hours are up now perhaps further news has come out.

The police wouldn't have been able to take him down to the station without arresting him and cautioning him first. So whatever time they turned up to his house and made first contact with him is the time from when the initial 24 hour questioning stage begins.

Does anyone else remember that BBC police show on organised crime based in Manchester that was getting loads of rave reviews and then mysteriously got pulled after 2 episodes?

What happened to that?

It is coming back very soon.

The first episode was a guy I used to play football with as a kid, called Darren Berkley from around Moss Side and Fallowfield way.

Fancied himself as a hard man even back then but was shocked to see he was tying up victims and using an iron on them. His son was that psycho Paris in the show.

"Threats to kill" paints, if anything, a more unpleasant picture, in that not only was he doing this stuff to her but she was afraid for her life (or I guess someone else's) if she left or told anyone.
